I tried using emf, wmf, bmp... with images up to 24000x3500 pixels. You will see from link above that the quality is not there. Any tips for using 'text' that scrolls across the screen?

You may want to increase slide size as that looks tiny and images will be optimised for slide size. as well, but Storyline is limited to 2048px width or height images. That said any image in a slider thumb always looks blurry to me
As Phil says most of all the slider itself destroys the image quality. If you add the same image as png or jpeg outside of the slider it looks better. So make some custom slider with motion paths and your better off..
