Does the audio sound okay outside of Storyline--like playing it with another tool? If it does and sounds worse in Storyline, I'd file a bug report.
One thing I might try in the interim. Use something like the free FormatFactory media converter tool. Convert your original MP4 to something like an AVI and then try importing that new AVI file into Storyline.
Forgot to add, I've had issues with a few AVI files where the audio gets lost when importing into Storyline. I still owe Articulate a bug report on that one and need to do better. (Too many overlapping critical projects to get done. )
I use my FormatFactory trick and convert the AVI to a AVI and import that new file and all is well.

Right - it's fine in any other program but seems very compressed in Storyline and no way to change settings.
Yeah, a MP4 file is already compressed and Storyline may be re-compressing it. Good to file a bug and give Articulate the MP4 file to play with.
