Importing a complete project from Power point and Engage 13 to Storyline 2

Apr 07, 2015

Hi guys,

I found myself in an interesting position today and I'm hoping to find some enlightenment among the community to help me turn this around as quickly as possible.

I've inherited a project that was built in power point and engage 13, in the zip folder that has the output, I also see some quizmaker files.

The project itself is wonderful, however it is missing one key ingredient:

Alt tags for accessibility tools. Our client absolutely requires the use of a screen reader for blind users and therefore requires alt tags for images that appear in the project.  The way I see it there are 2 options (neither of which I'm sure how to execute and am asking for help)

1. Somehow program the alt tags into the Engage 13 project which also includes a PPT and quizmaker files

2. Import the project into storyline 2 and add alt tags from there.

I'm trying the later, but am finding I don't quite know how to capture all of the project. I imported the PPT assuming it would carry the other functions of the Engage and Quizmaker files but no luck there. How could I import the whole project into Storyline 2 so that I can just add the alt tags and republish the course for our client?

There are:

3 Engage 13 files

2 Quizmaker files

1 PPT

1 TXT file entitled "notes" not sure what that's for

1 PPTA file (unknown to me)

Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for reaching out here. It sounds like you have the original files in addition to the published output? That's good - cause you'll need to do this with the original files (.ppt, .intr, .quiz, etc.). What I'd say to do first is import the Powerpoint file (just the .ppt or pptx file) as a whole - and you'll want to make sure that the .ppt and the .ppta file are in the same folder before you import so that all the Presenter elements are kept together.  It should leave place holder slides for Engage/Quizmaker elements if they don't import over and then you can do those individually. The Notes should transfer as a part of the regular import - not needed to import that separately.

Here are directions on how to import from Powerpoint, Quizmaker and Engage. You may also want to review the tips here in terms of elements from Powerpoint/Presenter that won't import into Storyline.

You would do better to open the engage files and copy and paste the text.  Storyline 1 or 2 will not import the content of the engage files but instead when you publish will add the engage published files in the relevant place.  If you need alt tags and accessibility you are going to have to rebuild the interaction in Storyline.  Hope this helps

Hi Darren,

I was able to successfully Import it and have attached a copy here. But Phil is correct in regards to the ALT tags, as those won't be able to be added in Storyline to the Engage elements.

Also, just as an FYI that Engage interaction opened for me in Engage '13 not Engage 09 with no message to upgrade it - so had you already done that?

Thanks for the replies Ashley and Phil.

I don't have engage 13, perhaps that is why they didn't open before?

Thanks for attaching the storyline file of the attached engage content. How does one go about upgrading the Engage from 09 to 13? I take it that these files aren't backwards compatible? I'd be curious to find out why if they aren't.

Much appreciated.
