Importing PowerPoint to Storyline 2 - master slide issues

May 20, 2016

I imported a project from PP to Storyline 2.  The import went well, however, I made a few updates to the Master Slides, and then "re-clicked" on the updated layouts for each slide, but the slides will not take the changes.  Is it because the slides were imported?

I can make updates directly to each slide, but I cannot get the slides to accept the changes made on the master slides.  Suggestions, anyone?  46 slides need to be changed, and doing each by hand is a pain!!!

Great questions! Yes, I reapplied the layouts from the master to the individual slides. I even tried selecting a different layout and then re-selected the correct/original one as you suggested. Neither worked.

Interestingly enough, part of the changes work, part did not. Everything in the footer (rights, logo, etc.) all transferred nicely. The font size, spacing, and layout of text boxes did not.

If there's not a way to fix this, is there a way to globally change the size of all of the titles/headers on each slide, for instance, at the same time?

Thanks for helping,

Hi Carey,

First I wanted to let you know that responding via email includes your signature here, so you're welcome to edit the forum thread to remove that information.

There is not a global font size setting for titles/headers - so if your masters aren't working you'll need to look at editing the individual slides, and using the format painter would be the quick way to update each slide.

I do see that this is an issue we've reported to our QA team in regards to changes you make on the slide master not updating on slides imported from Powerpoint, it seems that the changes will update on new slides you create exclusively in Storyline. I'll include this thread in the report filed with our team so that I can update you here once there is additional information to share, but I don't have a time frame to offer in regards to  an update.

Hi Ashley - I just came across this thread because we are having the same issue with slides imported from PowerPoint not updating when we make changes to the Master in StoryLine 2. Can you let me know if this issue has been resolved, or is expected to be resolved soon? If not, what do you recommend as the best workflow? We had hoped to layout our training in PPTs first, get full review and approval from the team, then bring them into StoryLine 2. But if we lose the ability to make Master-level changes to the styles/fonts at that point, it is unfortunate. Any suggestions?

Hi Matthew,

This issue still is something with our QA Team, but it's specific to the changes you'd make to the slide masters after importing into Storyline and wanting it to be applied to the originally imported Powerpoint slides. So you could still lay them out in Powerpoint, as long as any changes you'd want to make can be made at the slide level vs. a slide master. You could also look at inserting the new slides to accept the slide master changes and add text/content there.

As for a timeline, I don't have any additional information to share on that but this forum discussion is included in the report filed with our team so that we'll be able to share any additional information with you once available.
