Incorrect file package - missing imsmanifest or AICC structure

Apr 21, 2016

Hello and afternoon,

I've been using Articulate Storyline 2 for a few months and I've been creating a large 'Virtual Tour' eLearning module for a software package we use. Another team who handle the uploading of the modules using Web Based have previously uploaded this 'Virtual Tour' and it's accessible and has been used successfully.

I've made a few changes to it (mainly a 'print results' button on the quiz results slide and some changes to reporting and tracking along with a few minor tweaks to slides that was stopping users from progressing on a question in the quiz) and wanted to get the new version uploaded, however my colleagues who handle the uploading to our HR website are unable to and it keeps giving an error 'Incorrect File Package - missing imsmanifest or AICC structure' (screenshot attached) in Web Based when trying. The zipped folder contains the 'imsmanifest' file and my colleagues have checked with Web Based who have said it's a problem with the eLearning module....

We've been able to upload other eLearning modules successfully, it's just this 'Virtual Tour' that we are unable to update with a new version.

I didn't know if anyone else in the community had similar issues when uploading a new version of an existing module with Web Based? I'm of course publishing from my C:\ and can't think of anything in the eModule itself that would stop it from being uploaded.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Alex =)

Hello Alex!

A good start is to try with another LMS such as scorm cloud and see if it works there.

I have had a similair problem once. Where it did not work in our customers LMS but in ours.
It was when the scorm zip contained a nested folder, that is a folder in the zip containing your content instead of your content directly in the zips "root".

Try open your zip and see if it contains a folder with all your content. If so try repackage it without the folder.

Good luck!

Hi Jonas and Leslie,

Thanks for your super quick replies and thoughts.

It might be difficult to use another LMS in this case as I work for a local council, so we're limited to what we have in place. I've asked a few questions to see if there are other options.

After publishing the course to LMS, the output folder contains the 'story_content' folder, which contains screenshots and images as well as two folders for 'Notes' and 'Slides' - this looks ok to me. If I then zip the folder using the zip option from within Storyline, the 'story_content' folder has all the screenshots/images but then only a folder 'Slides' within, not sure if that matters?

Jonas, do you mean for me to try moving everything out of this 'story_content' folder into the main directory and then zip the folder?

Also, do you know if it make a difference if you zip using Storyline or zip using Windows?

I had another module publish to our LMS successfully last night, so it's just this 'Virtual Tour' that's giving me issues, yay!

Thanks/Tak!

Hello Alex!

No, you should not move the files out of the 'story_content' folder. If you use storyline to zip the file you get a correct package, but if you zip it using windows you can get the nested folder I mentioned in my previous post. That is if you zip your project MY_PROJECT by clicking the folder and zip it in windows, you will get a zip containing a folder MY_PROJECT and in it all your content, which will not work on all LMS.

Have a nice weekend!

Hi Alex!

Looks like Jonas has popped back in to address your questions. I did want to clarify that I was only suggesting SCORM Cloud to test - not to change your LMS ;) It's just a good baseline of what to expect and allows us to know if it's an LMS limitation or the project.

I always advise to zip from the publish successful dialog window.

Hej Jonas,

Tack så mycket. Jag talar lite Svenska. Which I picked up on my travels around Sweden.

I have tried zipping the folder through Storyline, which failed, so I later tried zipping through Windows, which I know now to avoid.

I'll try going back an publishing and then zipping through Storyline and see what happens with the upload to our LMS.

Bra helg!

Hi Lesley,

I understood, no worries, we're just limited to what we have in local government. I've tried sending the zipped folder to the company Omniplex, who delivered our Articulate Storyline training, to see if they can take a look and diagnose any issues.

Thanks for your input both.
