Inline video on iOS devices

Regarding this item in the 1/26/17 update for SL360:
"New: Apple iOS 10 allows videos to play inline on iPhones, so we added this functionality to Storyline 360. Just publish your course and it’ll automatically work. (Older versions of iOS force videos to fill the screen on iPhones.)"
I just tried this and my iPhone (iOS10) was still playing the videos using the Quicktime player when browsing the course with Safari.
Does Articulate have any additional detail for getting videos to play inline?
Thanks,
Erich

Hi Erich,
First you'll want to ensure that you're working with the most recent update of Storyline 360. When you open Articulate 360, you should see a message prompting you to update:
Then, re-pubish the course with the updated version of SL360, and you should see the video play inline as expected. I hope this helps!
I was using the latest version. That's how I knew this functionality existed.
Has anyone had success getting vids to play inline on iOS?
Hmm, that's interesting. The update should have done the trick. In that case, we'd want to take a look at your file to make sure there's not something preventing the video from playing inline. You can share your file with the team here, and one of our Support Engineers will test it and contact you shortly.
FYI...
Hi Erich,
Thank you for uploading your project file. We have reviewed your project file and we were able to duplicate your issue. The issue affects videos that are embedded into Storyline. The video launches in full screen mode, but you should be able to use the minimize button to make the video play inline. See screenshot for visual reference:

I have submitted your case to our Quality Assurance team for their review. I cannot offer a time frame for when or if this issue will be resolved so please continue to take advantage of the workaround (using the minimize button) if you encounter this issue in the future.

Thanks so much for sharing the response from your case, Erich. We've added this discussion thread to the report Miker sent to Quality Assurance, so we'll be sure to come back and post updates here as soon as we have more information.
Hi Erich,
I saw that Miker responded and shared the follow information so I also wanted to update you here:
I got the following update from our QA and Development team:
Upon additional investigation, inline video with web videos isn't controlled from Storyline. However, there is a parameter (playsinline=1) that you can add to the YouTube embed code that will make it work.
An example would be: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vlHuWb6v9aY?playsinline=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Vimeo doesn't currently have support for it. Depending on your video provider, they may or may not support a similar parameter. We would recommend checking with your video provider to see if they have something similar to YouTube's implementation.
I am having this same issue, but with videos inserted, not embedded. I am using 360 and an iPhone with iOS 10. I originally created the project in SL2, but because of this issue, uploaded into 360 and then published. However, the video is still showing in full screen.
Hi Carmen,
As of the January 26, 2017 update for Storyline 360 and Studio 360, videos play inline (rather than fullscreen) on iPhones running iOS 10 or later. Just publish your course and it’ll automatically work.
Videos in Storyline 2, Storyline 1, and Studio '13 courses always fill iPhone screens, even if they're running iOS 10 or later.
Do you know what version of Storyline 360 you're using? You can check by going to the Help tab -> About Articulate Storyline. I would also look at freshly inserting this video into Storyline 360 vs. upgrading your SL2 file.
Thanks, Ashley. I am using v3.5.11153.0. I will try reinserting the videos.
Carmen
Thanks Carmen - if it's still not working for you can you share a copy of your .story file (even just that one slide with the video)?
Hello W W,
I'm not clear on what you are asking about here.
Is there something that we can assist with? Just let us know.
Yes. It appears that the major problem I was having was not with Storyline, but rather with the Cornerstone On the Go mobile app. When we played through the browser and scrapped the app, everything worked fine.
Hi everyone,
I seem to have the same problem with playing an inline video object where the course is exported as SCORM on iOS devices (even iOS11+). Also using the latest version of Storyline360.
Works a charm on Android.
Hello Anton,
Sorry to hear that you ran into difficulty with this as well.
Are you viewing the course in a supported mobile environment as specified here?
Viewing in a 3rd party app from your LMS would not be a supported environment.
