Is it possible to delete all audio files from the media library?

Apr 08, 2019

I'm creating multiple translations of a course and want to delete all the English audio files at once.  Is this possible?

In the media library, the delete icon (trash can) is disabled.  Is there a way to enable it and select and delete all the audio files?

Great question, Sally!

You can delete assets from the media library if they aren’t used anywhere in your project. Just select an asset in the list on the left side of the screen and click the Delete button in the lower right corner of the details pane. (The button will be grayed out if the asset is in use.)

It sounds like you need a way to delete a group of media files all in one click. Thanks for letting us know what you'd like to see, and I'll be sure to pass along this idea to our Product team. 😁

Thanks for your reply.
Just to clarify, I wanted to delete all the audio files that are in use in the project, without going to each slide to delete the file. I can't do that in the Content Library, since the files are still used on the slides. However, I don't need to do that. I'm actually swapping out translated audio files, and I discovered that the Content Library lets me do that - which is great!

Thanks for clarifying, Sally and happy to hear you found a method that'll work for you!

I also noticed that your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if you would like by clicking Edit beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

HI Jirah!

I'm happy to offer a step by step!

Before we get started, there are a few notes to keep in mind.

  • When you add an asset to a slide using the Storyline ribbon, the asset automatically appears in your media library. And if you later delete the asset from the slide, it also disappears from the media library.

  • However, when you import an asset directly into the media library, it’ll remain in the library until you delete it. If the asset’s use count is zero, you can use the Delete button to remove it from the media library.

Now onto the steps!

  1. To delete multiple assets in the Media Library, first, make sure they aren't used in the course. If they are used in the course, the Delete button will be greyed out.
  2. Select the assets that you want to delete. On your keyboard, hold down the WINDOWS key, or COMMAND if you're using a Mac, and then use the mouse to click each asset.
  3. Lastly, click the Delete icon in the lower right corner of the Media Library.

The delete icon looks like this:

Hello Ansie!

Thank you for sharing this screenshot! It looks like the videos you're interested in deleting are located on slides in your project. In that case, you'll need to delete the videos on the slides. You'll have the option to delete assets in the Media Library if they aren't currently in use.

Please let me know if you have additional questions!
