Is there a way to make a video with graded questions start when the user clicks play?

Oct 30, 2020

I have a video with graded questions but I want the video to start when the user presses play instead of automatically starting. As it is right now, I have the video added to a Rise module, when the user completes the content above, the video starts to play before you can see the video.

I put in a trigger with a play button/icon that the video will start when the user presses play but it is not working and the video just starts. It doesn't even seem like the play button is clickable.

When you lightbox a slide, the built-in programming automatically pauses the timeline of the slide you're on. And the built-in program will automatically resume the timeline when you close the lightbox. However, because you added your own "pause timeline" trigger, that overrides the built-in programming, so it can't resume the timeline.

So it's an easy fix: just delete the "pause timeline" triggers.

FYI: For future reference, refer to this post for related info about pausing and restarting a timeline on the same slide: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/support-on-triggers-for-cue-points

What do you want to happen and when do you want it to happen? As the Articulate staff says, those are the basic elements of a trigger.

Possible trigger actions include pausing the timeline at specific moments (via exact time or cue point) and resuming the timeline. There can also be separate triggers to play, pause, and resume media (aka video or audio).

So look at everything on your slide, consider the what and when of your slide, and then add the appropriate triggers accordingly.

Good luck.
