Issue with mobile course viewing.

Sep 26, 2016

Hello All--

I am having issues with viewing SCORM content via mobile in published Storyline 1 courses (Storyline 2 courses work perfectly with mobile). The courses appear to not completely load--pictures, text, buttons, etc. are all missing.

I tried to convert these old courses to Storyline 2, but then I experienced some erratic behavior with this conversion. The main issue appears to be with slide layers--they will either not work at all, or the slide layer will popup, but disappear so quickly that you can barely tell it was on the screen at all.

I also tried to publish these courses as Tin Can (I read this works better with mobile content) but I experienced the same erratic behavior.

Please help! The majority of our students want mobile viewing capabilities.

Thanks,

Cassandra

Hi Cassandra!

Thanks for reaching out here today. Storyline 1 only offers support for mobile on the iPad in the mobile player or the HTML5 output in Safari whereas Storyline 2 supports Apple and Android devices as detailed here with those particular browsers. What kind of mobile devices are you seeing this issue on? You'll also want to make sure that you're using the latest update to Storyline 1, update 10, as support was added for iOS 9 which fixed some issues of slide content not appearing.

When you're attempting to convert your courses to Storyline 2, is the behavior you're describing happening when previewing right in the Storyline 2 or just once published? Are you running the latest update for Storyline 2, as well?

Hi Ali,

I thought Storyline 1 was also compatible with Android devices (will it work if you have the Articulate app? Is it even available for Android or windows phones?)? We tried the courses on Windows phones and IOS devices and they all had the same issues (yes, I do have all current updates installed).

The behavior I experience in Storyline 2 happens in both preview mode, and the published file (I also have the most current version of Storyline 2).

When I was researching the issue I came across this statement:

"How Do Learners View Courses on Mobile Devices?

After publishing, upload your course to a web server or LMS, then give learners a link to the story.html file (which is the file that launches the course). They’ll automatically see the right format for the device and browser they’re using. See this article for details on how this happens"

I don't understand how you 'give learners a link to the story.html file'? My LMS uploads the course as a zip file--there is no way to 'link' anything.

Please help! We need our courses to run on all devices.

Thanks,

Cassandra

Hi Cassandra,

Thanks for the additional details here! Articulate does not officially support viewing Storyline 1 content on Android devices or browsers. You can read more about that here. Support for Android devices was added in Storyline 2, you can take a look at the comparison chart here for reference under the Publishing section.

If the article you're referencing is this one, it specifically pertains to Storyline 2. The html version it refers to is the link to the project itself after it's uploaded to the LMS- making sure that it ends in .html . You can read more about that here

This article is specific to sharing Storyline 1 content for iPad or HTML5, which also has the section about linking to .html . See this article for more info on it specifically for Storyline 1. Again, this will only be supported on Apple mobile devices.

I hope that helps clarify a little more. To better investigate the issue you're describing when upgrading your courses, would you be able to share your .story file here so I can take a look? Preferably the Storyline 1 version, if possible, so I can do some testing. You can add it as an attachment right to a comment here in this thread.

Hi Ali,

Thanks for the info. So it sounds like I need to get these Storyline 1 courses successfully converted to Storyline 2.

Unfortunately, I am unable to share my .Story file. This seems to be a consistent issue because I tried to convert 3 different courses and they all had the same issues with layers not working properly. Would it help at all if I provided my publish settings?

Thanks again!

Hi Ali,

I am still unable to share my file. I attached a shell of the course (I removed pictures and text and most of the slides), but hopefully this will provide you with enough information, since the issue I am experiencing is primarily with the layers not appearing. This is also the Storyline 1 version, not the version I attempted to convert to Storyline 2--is that what you needed??

I hope this is enough information to shed some light.

Thanks,

Cassandra

Hi Cassandra,

Thanks for sharing your file here, I was able to reproduce what you're describing when upgrading the course to Storyline 2. This is actually an issue that's been reported to our Quality Assurance Team and has to do with the transitions applied to the elements in the feedback layer. Unfortunately, the only workaround currently is either to remove the transitions or change them once upgraded. I realize the inconvenience of this so I apologize that I don't have any updates on the matter at this time.

I'm going to add this thread to our QA report. Since you're subscribed here, you'll receive notifications of updates as soon as they become available.

Hi Cassandra,

This issue is still with our QA team and unfortunately I don't have any updates to provide at this time. I can't speak to a timeframe but this thread has been included as part of the report. When I do have an update to share, I'll be sure to post here and let you know right away. Since you're subscribed here, you'll get an email notification of any updates.
