Jerky motion paths once published

Mar 20, 2018

Hi Folks,

I'm struggling with really jerky motion paths in courses post publish.  So, the motion paths are smooth as you like in the player but as soon as you publish they become extremely jerky to the point that I have played with the idea of removing them altogether which could be a shame.

I have tested in different network environments, most with very decent bandwidth so I don't believe this is the problem.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so, can anyone help me to overcome this please?

Authoring in SL3.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Adrian,

What motion path are you using? I've seen a similar report where using the Turn motion path is not smooth through the turn, especially when it's using the "orient shape to path" option. In comparison, the curve and freeform motion paths do playback smoothly.  This is an issue our team is looking into, and if that sounds like the same thing you're seeing I can connect this discussion to that report.

If that doesn't match what you're describing, I'd love to take a look at your file and know a bit more about where you're testing it. Did you upload to a server/LMS? What browser(s) have you viewed it in?

You can share that .story by clicking here and inserting it into a new discussion comment. Look for the Add Attachment button. Thanks!

Hi Ashley,

thanks for coming back to me, really appreciate it.

Its your standard straight line motion path, no advanced options are being utilised.  The story file is published to Totara 9.9 LMS, viewed in IE11 and Firefox.

Not able to share due to data protection.  Its just a shame as in the player it looks so polished and smooth.

It would be interesting to know if anyone else has experienced similar problems....

thanks again Ashley.

Hi Adrian,

I completely understand you not being able to share your file for data protection reasons. Instead, could you do a "Save As" to create a copy of your file, then remove all slides except for the one with the motion path? You can also delete proprietary text from that slide, if needed.

We can help you test the slide in another LMS environment like SCORM Cloud. I'd also be interested in comparing the behavior in other supported web browsers.

If you're able to share a single slide with us, you can click here and attach the file to a new thread comment. Look for the Add Attachment button.
