Jump to URL/File
Jul 23, 2013
I am adding a [Jump to URL/File] trigger to button. After publishing, the trigger does not work when the button is clicked. I have been reading through previous posts on Jump to URL/File but I do not seem to get a solution.
I need the button click to open a new window that loads a storyline content that is stored in http://www.jgitonga.com/mdata. This is a folder that works okay when you enter the url in the browser address bar.
Note that the story.html file in this folder is renamed index.html.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Jeremiah,
Are you testing this within the intended environment for publishing or on your local drive? This article is a good reference when publishing Storyline content.
If you're uploading your content to the web and the link still isn't working, can you share your file here so that I can take a look at it?
Thanks!
Thanks Ashley,
I have done a quick test and I see that the jump to URL works when i publish the 1 slide online (www.jgitonga.com/test).
The exit button however does not exit but let me first read the article you have provided.
Thanks again for the answer.

Thanks Jeremiah - keep me posted if the suggestions in the article solve your problem!
I seem to be having a similar issue. When I test my link it works just fine but when I publish the link doesn't open up the webpage. I've never had issues with weblinks opening before and I'm not seeing anything in my settings that is different.
The only difference from my current project where the link is not working from a past project is that I changed the Story Size layout. I can't imagine that having anything to do with it.
Ok so a little more information. The link works if I publish to my Articulate folder but if I move the folder anywhere else or publish to my desktop or to any other folder the link doesn't work.
Hi Jacob,
You'll want to publish to your local drive as described here, so the desktop should work as a publishing location. What you'll also need to do then is test the published output within the intended environment to properly test links and such.
I've tried that but I think there may be something wrong with my Storyline cause I'm finding some issues with my Caption boxes as well now.
Well I uninstalled Storyline and reinstalled it and that fixed my caption box issues but not the URL links.
Hi Jacob,
Thanks for the update and I'm glad the captions are working again. Could you share the Storyline file with us so that we could take a look at your links and test them?
Here is the storyline file. I hope it worked.
Hi Jacob,
Thanks for sharing the file here with us - but I don't see any triggers for a URL or any of your objects which include a URL in it, so I'm not sure which element isn't working for you? Could you share a bit more information here about what you'd like us to look at on this one slide?
My mistake I didn't upload the correct file. I'm thinking there may be an issue with my pop ups. I'm working with our IT group as well to figure out the issue.
Hi Jacob,
When I try to access that URL (copy and paste the link into my browser) it seems there is nothing there? I get an error message from Chrome that it's not something they could find.
