Layers and D2L

Sep 26, 2014

I'm a beginner in Storyline, working on my first project. I was able to create a project where one slide has several layers and each layer has an audio clip; when the clip plays completely, a trigger brings up the next layer, and so on.

It is working well, but when I upload the project to my course in Desire2Learn, the layers won't work. After the media in the first or basic layer plays completely, instead of bringing the second layer, it goes to the next slide.

Is there some incompatibility between them? Or perhaps I need to do something to make it work?

Thanks for any help,

Guillermo

I think I need to make something clear. When I said "it is working well," I meant it when I previewed the slide within the project. I just checked the output of the published version and does not work either off my hard drive. I also previewd the Project and does not work either. Only when previewing the slide, it works. This means, I suppose, that it has nothing to do with D2L

Sorry if I created confusion. Now, I'm completely lost.

Guillermo, as possibly a "first step" before testing in SCORM cloud, I would recommend first testing your content by uploading it to Articulate TempShare, which is a really easy way to test your content from a web server and make sure that things are working as you expect them to.

If it works well there, but not in your LMS, then I would go to the SCORM cloud testing as step 2 in my troubleshooting process.

Hope this helps

Okay, I did and it does not work. Thanks for the help, both of you. But what could be the reason the layers are not working as the "Preview This Slide"? Once the audio clip is plaed completely, instead of jumping to the next layer, it jumps to the next slide. There must be a simple explanation, a box I am not checking, or an option I'm not selecting.

I do, but I figured it out. There was nothing wrong with Storyline (of course). There was a trigger that I did not create in the first layer, I guess it was there by default, and that trigger was telling the movie to jump to the next slide when the timeline ends. The way I programmed it, the first audio in the first layer ends exactly at the same time that the timeline of the first layer ends, so it was making the movie jump to the next slide.

And the reason why it works in Preview This Slide is because there was no slide to jump to, so it activates the next layer, and so on.

Thank you all. Nice learning process.
