Layers appearing in Preview

Nov 08, 2013

I am just starting to explore Storyline and am testing the various capabilities. I have built one slide with layers intended to come in over time and one that has layers that should appear via triggers. In each case, when I run the slide in preview, the layers will not come up. Haven't been able to find threads, tutorials, or help in my guide books that helps me understand why this is happening so hoping someone here may be able to explain what I am missing.

Hello Bob,

I haven't seen the project but a lot of times, you have to go back to your triggers and check the "sequence". Make sure that the show layer is listed first before anything else. (In short just make sure the sequence of the triggers are correct as you designed them to)

But ya, it would be great if you can share so we can take a peek.

Donna.

Hi Bob and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Here is a tutorial if you would like to take a look at that.

You want to make sure those triggers are right  To show layers, you need to "trigger" their appearance.

For example, on the base layer you may add a trigger that says "show layer>untitled layer 1>when timeline starts"

Hi Bob,

I think I see where the confusion may have crept in. Each layer has it's own independent timeline, to make layers show you need to trigger them. As you cannot trigger them with a command such as 'after 10 seconds' I've attached a sample of how to trigger a layer using an off screen shape. So your triggers read 'show layer X when timeline starts on offscreen shape'

Hope this helps
