Learning Module Not Working For All Users

Jun 21, 2023

Good afternoon.  This is an odd one.  I created a Storyline module and a new hire class has taken it, but for 2 of the learners, they cannot get past a section where they have to enter a name and address into several fields.  Everyone else in the class can.  What is odd is this the second address they have to enter and they had no issues with the first address.  I am not doing anything with what they are keying in the text entry fields (not capturing, no variables or triggers), they simply key into the fields for practice.
We use Workday Learning as our LMS.  Our LMS expert, which is not me, has reached out to Workday and they are not able to find a fix.  She has had them try different browsers, and clear their cache/temp internet files.  I have republished using SCORM 2004 and the latest version with no success in fixing.
Has anyone run into a situations where only a few/couple of users cannot get through a module but the rest of the class can?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.  I apologize if this does not make sense or if I do not have enough details.  This one has us baffled.

Initial thoughts:

  • Are they using the same systems/builds as the others who have successfully done this?
  • Is there *any* different setting *anywhere* with the specific browser that they are using?
  • Can you republish this module as SCORM1.2 and have them test it?
  • Are they using mobile platforms vs laptops/desktops?

We occasionally have learners who encounter the 1-in-100 situation such as you describe, and in nearly every case that I know of, the problem is either in the browser settings (on the learner's device) or in the person's device connectivity. We are still stuck with using SCORM1.2 so I don't know if there is any meaningful difference between that and 2004 (as far as this type of issue is concerned), but you may want to explore these as avenues of getting around the problems.

The last resort (for us) was to rebuild the troublesome section, and then we added an "escape hatch" that allowed the person to go to the end of the section where they then did the knowledge check required to move to the subsequent section. That may be an option for you too.

Good luck -

Assuming I have understood correctly, they are using the same work laptops and all related systems.  They have tried launching the module in both Chrome and Edge, both having the same issue.  I am not really sure if there are any different browser settings.  They should be the same but I am not sure if I can guarantee that.  This module was originally published with SCORM 1.2 and we hoped that using SCORM 2004 would fix it.

I will forward your response to our Workday Learning expert to see if this can help her with the issue.

Thank you for your reply.  I really appreciate it.  Have a great weekend.

Hi Greg,

I'm happy to chime in! 🙂

Have you tried testing your course in a different LMS to rule out an LMS issue? SCORM Cloud is a great environment that you can use for this purpose. Here's how to test your course on this platform:

If the learners can replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud, would you be willing to upload a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can look at it? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
