About half the time I run my lesson on an LMS, a Lightbox will not display the slide content. The black screen is display along with the x. The black screen can be closed. This occurs to different Lightboxes each time I run the lesson. Is there any way to prevent this problem?

Does this also happen if you publish to any other media, (like e.g. DropBox)?
What LMS are you using, and do you have any local support?
Does it happen when you access the same (LMS-based) course from another PC?
Have you tried to e.g. publish to a (trial account) on Articulate online and see what happens?
Some of these may help to get to a resolution.
