Likert scale tracking/reporting

Aug 20, 2014

Hello

One of my customers wants to use a likert scale (only 4 statements) at the beginning and again at the end of a module to gauge learner's feelings on the subject prior to taking the module and again after. I have created the 2 slides using the likert scale and 1 results slide based on both likert scale interactions (the idea being the results slide would include before and after answers) but I can't seem to report on this in the LMS. The module seems to track complete OK after the 2nd survey is done, but I'm not sure if I have set this up properly or if you simply cannot use this kind of interaction for what I want to do. Any help much appreciated as well as other ways people have dealt with this kind of pre and post analysis

thanks for any input

Hi Justin, hope you are well

I seem to remember from previous threads that Likert is a great concept, but very difficult to actually get anything back from unless you are using Articulate Online as the LMS.

This may be completely rubbish of course, but that is my memory of Likert, and the reason why I do not use them more. It would be great to find this is not actually the truth!

Hi Justin,

I think Bruce is referring to the information here:

You may find that learners' responses to Likert survey questions aren't reported to your learning management system (LMS) or Articulate Online. This is a known issue where cmi.interactions data for Likert questions isn't being sent to the LMS. We'll post more information here as it becomes available.

Not the answer you were looking for, but I did want to share it here.

Hi Clare,

You may find that learners' responses to Likert survey questions aren't reported to your learning management system (LMS) or Articulate Online.

This issue was corrected in Update 6 for Articulate Storyline 1. We're actually on Update 10 now, so you'll want to download and install that update as it included a number of fixes. If you're still seeing this in your LMS or using Storyline 2 I'd encourage you to take a look at testing the course within SCORM Cloud as it's an industry standard for SCORM testing. This article will walk you through some troubleshooting steps in regards to working within SCORM Cloud. You'll want to make sure you're using a results slide to track the survey results and pass the data to your LMS as well.

Hi Justin,

I was searching for the same answer and found a link to this:

http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline-2/track-multiple-scos-in-the-same-course

It led me to Tracy Parish's post of 2013 where she shows her workaround... it is not supported by Articulate at this time.

hope this is relevant and specific enough to offer you help! I will try to recreate it for my pre and post course surveys.

Hi Courtney

here is a tutorial about results slides.

https://community.articulate.com/series/4/articles/adding-result-slides-in-articulate-storyline-2

In SL you can only track one result slide - you could include the likert survey in with other graded questions but you won't see any points being allocated to it.

See my sample story file attached.

Depending on the LMS you are using they can all handle results/tracking differently.

Here is an LMS troubleshooting blog to help you

blogs.articulate.com/word-of-mouth/troubleshooting-lms-issues/

There is also an industry standard LMS called Scormcloud where you can upload content and test things out

Welcome to elearning heroes - hope these get you started and feel free to shout out with any other questions.

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for this information, it's really useful. I'm trying to incorporate a pre and post assessment to measure learners' knowledge and the impact of the learning using a Likert scale. However, we also have a learning check that must be completed and a certain grade achieved. What is the point of Articulate having Likert scales if they don't report to the LMS? I think the only way I can have both is to install a button that links to SurveyMonkey for the pre and post assessments, then include quiz slides with graded scores for the learning check. Do you know of any easier options?

Your expertise is much appreciated.
