Line with a customized end type causes preview/publish error
Jun 20, 2018
I've run into a very unusual "error" in Storyline360 when working with lines with a customized endpoint. The customized line is rendering all slide content invisible both in preview and in the published file. I isolated the line to be the problem through removal of individual slide content.
Here's what I did:
- Added a new line
- Changed end point by going to: Shape outline - Dashes - More lines - Arrow settings - End type: oval arrow
The line on its own, without the customized end point, does not cause this issue.
I have no triggers and no layers on this slide. The slide is presented as a lightbox in the module.
Any idea as to why this is happening?

Hi Agnieszka,
It looks like you've run into a recent issue where straight arrows won't display in preview or when viewing the published output. Not to worry, our team spotted this too, and we're working on a fix now!
I'll let you know here as soon as it's ready. In the meantime, removing those arrows should fix up your file or our Support team can send you a link to roll back to Update 16.
Hi Agnieszka!
We released a fix late on Friday for the issues encountered in this discussion and a few others. You'll find the Storyline release notes are updated and you can download the latest update from the Articulate 360 Desktop application.
Let us know if you need anything else!
That's fantastic! What a quick turn around! Thank you very much for letting me know.
Two part question...the latest update fixed the same issue I was having with the line disappearing, however, I'm noticing that the lines are rendering very poorly (lossy). The lines are the same as Agnieszka's...a dotted line with an oval end. All other shapes (rectangles, circles, etc) that were natively 'drawn' in Storyline render perfectly.
Secondly...I'm also struggling with images being very lossy. The images that I'm importing are high res and look great in development. I have the publish settings set at the highest quality but nothing seems to help. I'm using the modern player.
Hi there Doug!
Sorry to hear the lines and images are rendering poorly in the latest update. Is this happening while previewing in Storyline, or only after the content is published?
My apologies for the delay.
It happens in both preview and when published to Articulate Review. However, I haven't tested it outside of Articulate Review. It seems to look the same in Safari, chrome, IE (edge/edgehtml?) and Firefox.
Hey there Doug!
Thanks for those additional details. Could you send me the Articulate Review 'Share' link so I can get a closer look at the lines and images that are rendering poorly?
Absolutely...is it ok for me to send the link to you via email? :-) If not, I can remove a bunch of content, publish to Review as a different name and post here.
Thanks!
Doug
Sure thing, Doug! You can send the link to me privately by clicking here.
Hi there Doug!
Thanks so much for sending over your Articulate Review link.
I'm definitely seeing blurriness on dashed lines and lines with a custom end type. Here's a sample slide that shows a comparison.
I'm going to bring this to my team so we can begin looking at next steps. As soon as I hear more on this, I'll let you know!
Hi Doug,
As promised, I'm here to notify you of our latest update to Storyline 360, which includes:
Fixed: Arrows and dashed lines were blurry when previewed or published.
To get the latest update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
