I have tried both ways of embedding a video in Storyline. The first method, to simply link out, plays on my machine but the client only sees a blank screen. The second method which was recommended by the forums was to use a web object. This has altogether failed to play locally or for the client. The main goal is to have the linked youtube video play for HTML 5.
We always recommend to publish and view the courses in an LMS or through a web server. Running the content locally could have local security restrictions in your computer and browser will cause various features to fail.
Thank you for the response! My question is actually more towards what means is the best to play a linked youtube video. I read in the forums that doing a web embedded object is the only way this can be achieved for HTML 5. However, I have tried this method and it is not working locally or on the LMS, even browser testing remotely yields a blank screen. Is this a specific bug and is there a work around for this?
In HTML5 you will have to use the web object to show you tube videos. When you add the item as a web object, are you hitting the "test" link to see if the link can play within a frame?
Some youtube videos will need to be set to open in a new window.
I have tried the web object embed and this method does not seem to work either. I even read and followed the special URL code in the tutorials, not just pasting it blindly. Perhaps there is another reason for the issue?
Are you following the method described here? I was able to insert this video and its plays in the SCORM Cloud in both flash and HTML5 content. Here is a link to the published output.
I can't find any discussion about my problem. When I try to embed a You Tube video into Storyline via a Web Object, I get a message saying that "The Web address you entered cannot be displayed in a frame. In order to function properly, this web object must be set to open in a new browser window." This is the address: http://youtu.be/Embed/Exp0suuypbI. What am I not understanding here. This is the first time I have encountered this problem.
I have tested this link and did not receive the same error. Using https://www.youtube.com/embed/Exp0suuypbI it was opened in a new window when tested. Can you test the published output here and let me know if it is viewing properly for you.
Yes, it does play correctly. Hmm…it makes me think that our Network is creating this restriction. I will investigate it from that point of view. I knew that in the past I had not had that problem. Thanks.

Do you have a link we can test?

This is the link that the client is attempting to link out to:
