Links disappearing once loaded to Sharepoint

Jun 03, 2014

Hi!  I have tried to upload a couple of different stories to our Intranet (Sharepoint), but the links keep dropping out.  When I open the files that I have saved locally, preview the project, then click on the links - they say - the link is not active while previewing.

Not sure if this is relevant - but the link is on a button - and the button trigger is "Jump to URL http://youtu.be/16p9YRF0l-g when user clicks'.  The URL is for a TED talk on YouTube.

I'm probably missing something very basic but can't find the answer

Thanks

Nicole

I'm not sure if I understand exactly. When you preview a project the links will not work; this is the normal behavior. You need to publish a project to have external links work. Do you mean that when you publish a project and test it locally, i.e., not in SharePoint, that the links work but when you upload it and test it from SharePoint they don't?

Hi Nicole,

In addition to what Brett mentioned, I wanted to point you to a few other resources to help narrow down where the issue is occurring:

You'll want to test your content within the intended environment, as testing the published content locally could cause you to encounter security restrictions.

Have you also checked with Sharepoint to see if there is a specific way you need to embed videos?

Hi Brett

Yes, when tested locally the link works but once it is uploaded to Sharepoint it drops out.

Thanks Ashley for your suggestions.  The button which is causing me some anxiety is on a layer.  The layer has an embedded YouTube clip and this is working when tested locally and is also working once I upload it to Sharepoint.  The button on this layer says "Can't see video?" and is meant to be a back-up to take the user away from Articulate and open a new browser window where the YouTube clip will launch. This button is working perfectly when saved locally but not working when uploaded to Sharepoint.

I will need to contact Sharepoint but am guessing I'd need to find a Sharepoint/Articulate guru.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Nicole,

Is that the only button/link that isn't working? If so, it may be how Sharepoint or even your browser is interacting with a link that is opening a new window. To help rule out the browser security issues, you could test the published content on another web server, and there are a few free options in this article.
