Links not giving me direct upload when I click on them

Feb 13, 2019

I am having problems with my links. When I create a file link under resources or

on a slide I get this.

I get a popup asking what I want to do. And then I get a popup that says "A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer.

Is there a way around this, I just want the link to open the file directly without the popups.

Thanks for your help in advance..

Hi there, Richard.  How are you hosting your Storyline course:  on the web, in an LMS, somewhere else?  Also, which browser is being used to launch the content?

That prompt sounds like the course might be launched locally from the desktop, and your computer is then asking permission to allow the course to use a browser to open web content.  These security settings are usually a bit different between browsers.  Let me know more about how you're launching the course, and we'll work on ideas!

Hi Richard,

Sorry for the delay, our team who monitors the forums reads and responds everywhere! So it takes us a bit at times. 🙂

What version of Internet Explorer are you using? It does sound like the pop-up message is coming from the browser and computer security settings.  An easy way to narrow it down would be to test in a couple other browsers such as Firefox or Chrome.

Also, if you continue to see the same message, do you know if the LMS has any security features like this pop-up warning? To test that, you could upload the same course into another testing environment such as SCORM Cloud.

If you're able to convert those files to URL, that would be another option as those should open in a new tab and although there may be a pop up about that window opening, it won't be the same as the prompt to allow access to a program (such as Adobe Reader, or similar PDF viewer).

Let me know how it goes with that testing - and I promise we'll be back in touch as soon as possible!
