LMS with Storyline iOS app

Aug 27, 2015

Hi everyone,

I just have a few questions about outputting the Storyline app on an iPad in terms of tracking user data offline.

In the iPad app you can make courses available offline, is it possible to track a users score once the app is loaded into the Articulate Storyline app via an LMS.

--

1) So the user flow would be (user is on iPad) - User visits LMS, logs in, starts course with URL, course defaults to iOS version, prompts to view app, user accepts, course loads, user completes course. Does the app then report back to the LMS their score and the fact they have completed the course?

--

2) What if User 1 makes the course available offline, then user 2 picks up the iPad and completes the course via offline. It would not know who user 2 is but would it re-report the course data back to the LMS and overwrite User 1's data?

--

3) If User 1 opens and completes course in app but User 2 logs into the LMS as User 2 and opens the course (which then opens via app etc), would it report back to the LMS as user 2 thereafter?

Thanks,

Laith

Hi Laith,

You can let learners download Articulate Storyline courses for offline viewing in the Articulate Mobile Player app. However, the Available Offline switch won't work for Tin Can API content. The Articulate Mobile Player app requires an Internet connection to track Tin Can API content in a learning management system (LMS). So it won't be able to report the data back if the user is accessing it offline.

Also, once the course is downloaded into the app there isn't a way to determine which user it is, unless they're relogging into the LMS and the course isn't accessing the cached version within the mobile player.

This article describes how the Tin Can api content will work and the scenarios under which you may want to utilize that vs. publishing for SCORM and accessing in the HTML5 output.
