Matching drag and drop and number of attempts

Jul 03, 2014

Hi

I can't set the option "number of attempts" in this template : I set 2 attempts, when doing the exercise, the try again feedback appears each time the learner answers wrong. The "2 attempts option" become in fact "unlimited" !

Other problem (not the most serious) : the shuffle option is not functional, does it mean that the learner will see each time the answers in the same order ?

If someone can help...

The reason there seem to be unlimited Retry attempts when you don't use your Count variable is the way you have set your slide properties.  Your Try Again button on the Try Again layer returns to the slide, which means it revisits the slide.

On the slide properties, for "When revisiting" you have it set to "Reset to initial state."  This resets the attempts to 0.

Instead, set your Try Again button to simply hide the layer.  Then the learner can begin their 2nd attempt.

Each time I reload the quiz I get a new shuffle order.

Hi Myriem

I still does not work. When I use only the trigger "Hide this layer" (no "jump to slide" etc), the screen does no reset to initial state. It means that the elements remain "sticken" (or "matched").

Is it a way to avoid that ? I'm not sure the learner will guess that he can moove the elements to match them differently.

Thanks in advance

Hi Genia,

Thanks for sharing the file here. The first example you have in the scene 1 - works for me as expected. I'm only allowed two attempts, and after the second attempt I see the incorrect /wrong layer. Personally, I would have put the "show layer incorrect" trigger on the base slide looking for the variable count - but it works on the try again layer just fine.

Hi, the problem is that it doesn't work when the module is published with the "prompt to resume " setting: the module keep in mind that the learner already completed the exercise, so there is no "try again"...

And I'm obliged to use "prompt to resume"...

Hi Genia,

Sorry - we were off for the 4th of July holiday.

In regards to the resume behavior, it will resume the user to where they left off, so that does impact your try again behavior for the question.

As for the trigger, you had included it on the "try again" layer so that the user first goes to that layer, and then to the incorrect layer. I would have used the variable amount to show the user the "incorrect" layer directly from the base layer instead of first directing them to the "try again" layer - but it worked as you had set it up - so no need to change it unless you wanted too.
