Missing Menu / Icons in Storyline After Adobe Flash16 & SL Update (Upgrade)
Jan 07, 2015
So initially I had an issue accessing SL, and eventually got it up and running until the Adobe Flashplayer update last month, and I've had non stop issues with it ever since. I've done everything from uninstalling / reinstalling Storyline itself according to the instructions here: http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/unexpected-or-erratic-behavior-in-articulate-storyline
I've even reinstalled my windows - which moved me back to a trial version; and now this is what I get when I launch Storyline.
And I notice the Menu Icons across the top of the screen are gone replaced by a big red X
I can work in Storyline, but I become limited not knowing the shortcuts for saving, and inserting images/music, editing cropping, etc.
I tried looking to see if this was a known issue, but I couldn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I added the above screenshot to illustrate what is I'm referring to.
HI
just checking you have updated to the latest SL1 update 8 that was released to fix the Flash error? and not just updated Flash.
Link is here:
Here are also links to information about erratic behaviour and how to repair SL and working locally

Thanks Wendy - I did the SL1 update 8 to fix the Flash error, in addition to the recommendations of uninstalling the Flash update as well.
The program is installed on the local hard drive of my PC, which I also work from in terms of my save files.
The second link you posted is the same one I listed in the initial post for troubleshooting, and I get the same issues.
I also followed the instructions for repairing Storyline, to no avail.
Ewww....sorry wasn't any help maybe you should log a support ticket so they can remote in and check the install.
Have you tried creating a new project file and importing your existing slides into that see if it makes any difference?
Hello M,
You can reach out to the support team here for some further assistance.
Thank you Emily - I have done this.
Hi M,
If you have a case number, we're happy to follow along too - but in regards to your first image did you check that your DPI setting was at 96? A common cause of missing UI elements.
Sure thing - my Articulate Case # is 00450646.
I also verified that the default DPI of my PC was correctly set at 96.
Thanks M and I see you're working with Vevette on this issue so we'll continue to follow along.
Vevette requested that I send a screenshot of how it looks while having one project opened. Please see below:
Have you managed to resolve this issue yet? We are experiencing the exact same problem.
Thanks!
Hi OM,
It looks like M Wickett ended up changing the Windows theme on his system to resolve the behavior - so it was specific to a Windows setting and not a problem with Storyline itself. It seems the "Windows 7 Basic theme" allowed everything to work normally.
Thanks so much for your response. This solution solved our problems too!
Happy to hear it O M!
