Missing Quiz Questions in Chrome

Jul 06, 2017

After failing the quiz, questions are missing when the user retakes the quiz - therefore the user can never pass the quiz. This is only happening on Chrome, not in IE or Firefox, and I can recreate the issue in SCORMCloud. Has anyone else encountered this. Is there a fix?

Thanks!

Hi Julie,

I haven't seen this mentioned in the forums before, so I'm really glad you brought this up. Can you help me with a few questions?

  • What version of Storyline are you using?
  • Are you on the latest update of that version?
  • Are the quiz questions in a question bank?

If you can share your file with me, that would be really helpful, too. I'll be standing by!

I'm have Storyline 2, Update 12: 1705.520. The questions are in a question bank. I have removed the randomization of the questions and the answers and have also set them to Always be included in the shuffle. I have also found that this also occurs when I run the course locally.  When I run it on the LMS, if I exit the course and re-launch, I do get all of the questions. We are having anyone who has the issue, either switch to IE/Firefox or relaunch the course. I've attached my latest files.

Hi Julie.  I tested your file, and I'm noticing in a browser that doesn't have Flash enabled, the retake of the quiz is not working properly.  So it seems to be an issue with the HTML5 output.  In my instance of Chrome with Flash, the course worked as expected.

I'm going to do some research and see what else I can figure out.  For now, you may also want to advise your users to have Flash enabled in their browsers.

I'll keep you posted here in the discussion!

FYI - we've tested this course numerous times, with different settings in the question bank and always had the same outcome. You do have our last version where the questions on not randomized. We noticed that the same two questions are skipped every time. Your question about the question pool, prompted me to try taking the questions out of the question pool. That worked and is the short-term solution for now.  Because this particular course drew 5 questions from the pool of only 5, could this be part of the problem? We are having the same problem with another course, but it is two hours long and has 68 questions where all questions are presented from the pool.

We are having other issues with HTML5, especially on mobile devices. Hopefully this is all related.

Hi,

We have a similar problem with a course that has a question bank of 75 questions, and I write to know if there are any updates regarding this issue.

In our case, when you want to redo a question, the course crashes and doesn't work anymore. We have tried to publish it using the last version of Storyline 360, as it is mentioned here https://articulate.com/es-ES/support/article/html5-output-is-blank-in-google-chrome-44-sl1 , but it still doesn’t work. Is there any solution?

Thanks, kind regards,

Nuria

Hi there,

Any news about this storyline 2 skipping questions? I seem to have the same issue.

We have been testing some curses made in storyline 2 on our LMS. The result score shows 100%, but the recorded score is 88%. The quiz has 10 questions from 2 different questions banks (30 in total). We thougt it might be an issue like this:  https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/storyline-recording-in-cornerstone-the-minimum-score-achievable-based-on-number-of-assessment-questions

But soon we realized that storyline seems to be skipping a question sometimes and randomly. Reports show users with 100% and 88% score when there should be 80%.

Our LMS is Cornerstone.

Yes!  I have experienced exactly this.

Chrome, and no other browsers that I'm aware of, now SKIPS numbers in my exams.  No matter what I do, no matter what setting I change, I cannot get it to suddenly not skip.

so, if I have 10 questions, the first time through, I get all 10 questions, and all 10 are graded appropriately, but if I choose to retake the exam, it goes back and goes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, then grades.  If I hit "review", it shows all 10 in the review, but it shows that I did not answer 2,4,6,8,10.   Mind you, these quizzes don't allow advancing if they are unanswered, so somehow, in Chrome, they are never even being pulled up, they are somehow just magically being skipped over.  Again, just in Chrome.  No other browsers do this to me.

If I do a browser refresh and just reload the exam from the browser, I will get 10 questions again, but Chrome is somehow managing to do some form of a question skip, unless I do a browser refresh.

This did not used to be the case, but it is now.   Please Help!

Hi Leslie, Yes I am also using Storyline 2.

I am willing to share my story file with Articulate.

I have been detailing my issue in the following thread:

https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/chrome-and-storyline-not-playing-nicely-together

Turns out that our "retake exam" button does it's job correctly in Flash (restricted and free mode), but in HTML5, it does it's job in only "free" mode on the menu options.   If I change the menu option to "restricted" mode, I suddenly will get the skipping questions when I "retake exam."
