Multiple ways to "Submit interaction"

Mar 15, 2016

We've recently switched from Captivate to Storyline to build scored software simulations. In our software are countless screens (like the attached NoPermission.png) on which a user can click the OK button OR press the Enter key on his/her keyboard to move forward. However, I'm not able to figure out a way in Storyline to allow for BOTH actions to satisfy the quiz parameters for the specific slide.

I've attached a screenshot of the configuration I tried. So far, only clicking the button completes the "Submit interaction" command. Pressing Enter returns the default "Invalid Answer" script. Am I missing something?

Leslie,

Sorry... I think my explanation was worded wrong. Because it's a graded software simulation, I can't have the user click the Submit button that appears in the Navigation Controls. In fact, I need to remove the Submit button from every slide. In order to test the user's understanding of our software product, the user must be able to click the hotspot that's drawn around the OK button in the background or press ENTER and have the interaction submitted.

Thanks for the further explanation Nick. I'm sure that was my assumption due to your original request.

When you have the interaction set to 'On Click', the interaction will be submitted prior to needing to hit the Enter key - so you cannot have both perform as you expected.

You can still set to Submit by Player button, not have player buttons available, and submit upon user hitting the Enter key. Not sure if that would fit your needs better.
