Never complete the course

Feb 21, 2014

I just published my first Storyline 1.4 course for LMS and everything went well. We want users to be able to open the course anytime they want, as often as they want. So it should never get completed. That's why no result slide or whatever is in the course. We offer the exam separately and that works well.

My client is using the course now for about 2 weeks and some users can't open the theory module anymore. Yes, you got it, because it's completed… I hope the more experienced Storyline users can reach me some simple effective solutions.

What did I do? The status report for the LMS should be completed/not completed. So I set the report status to complete/imcomplete and the tracking to the 155 of 155 slides. I wonder of this setting means that storyline counts the amount of slides that the user has viewed  and than closes after 155 hits, or does it count if every individual slide of 155 is visited? When Storyline works the second way, I can easily put a slide to the course which the user never will visit. I guess that's a way tot make sure the course is never completed.

Hopefully you can help me and give me some simple instructions how to set the report and tracking status to make sure the course is never completed?

Thanks for helping,

Kirsten

Hi Kirsten and welcome to Heroes!

Storyline will track completion by each slide being visited, not just that you saw 155 slides (maybe a few more than once). The majority of LMS's consider the course to be in review mode once you've reached the completion status, but it seems odd that you'd be able to not open the course any longer. There is a method described here where you can modify that behavior, and you'll also see mentioned the idea you already shared to add an additional slide and track by 156 slides.
