Not able to download files from Storyline course in Microsoft Edge

Sep 06, 2018

Hi eLearning Heroes,

Testing our Storyline courses from our LMS and SCORM Cloud using MS Edge as many of our learners are now using this browser...seems when we try to download a file from a course nothing happens. This occurs in SL1, SL2, and SL3 courses.

Anyone have any documentation on this issue?

Thanks!

Hi, Shonna. Happy to troubleshoot this oddity with you!

First, smart move on testing the courses in SCORM Cloud. Could you help me with these extra details:

Additionally, would you be able to share one of the .story files with us for testing? You can either add as a comment by using the Add Attachment button in your reply or send it privately via this link. We'll be here!

Really appreciate the extra detail, Shonna! 🌟

I published your course to LMS on Storyline 3 (build 3.5.16548.0) and uploaded it to SCORM Cloud–here's the link to the project and here's a quick Peek of what I saw in Edge.

I hit a "404 Oops, the page you're looking for does not exist" notice when clicking on the documents in slides 1.17 and 1.21 and I'm able to download the .docx file in the Resource tab.

Have no fear, though! I've shared my testing with our Support Engineers, so we can do a deep dive. You should hear back from someone on the team with some next steps to try as quickly as possible. We’ll get through this, and I'll also follow the case along as I'm also curious to know what's causing this behavior in Edge!

Yeah I thought about the files that are downloadable on the layers (slides 1.17 and 1.21). Those are external files so the button doesn't really work in the .story file without them. In the SCORM file they are located in the External Files folder so they do exist and are downloadable.

I am wondering if there is some odd setting in my Edge browser. I'll explore that side of it today.

Thanks for continuing to reach out, Shonna!

It does seem like there's something in Edge causing this. Let us know if clearing the cache and cookies helps, and what your Edge's Downloads settings show–you can find this setting by clicking on the menu button in the upper right corner (...) > Settings > View Advanced Settings > Downloads

Hi Katie,

Thanks for helping. I did have the right mapping for where downloaded files should go, however, they weren't going there. I figured out it was because I wasn't seeing the "what to do with this download" message box. I went into the Edge Hub and saw the list of each of the files I tried to download (and the accompanying question of what to do with each one). I decided to try turning off the "Ask me what to do with each download" prompt and now it's working fine. I'll just need to educate my learners who use Edge as their browser that it works differently. Thanks so much!
