I was having similar issues with SL3 (ver 3) right after I had a 1TB hard drive installed. Turns out, Win7 was having memory swap issues with the new hard drive, and there was a hotfix available from Microsoft that resolved my issue. Just thought I'd share in case any of that may apply to you.
If it's happening in any/all files, you should certainly conduct a repair of your software.

I installed Storyline 3.4.15731.0 four days ago and as promised in the release notes the memory leak has been plugged. My memory usage has been very stable at under 400 MB. Well done team!
I can see these posts are at least a year old but I couldn't find a more appropriate place to submit an inquiry. I bought a new machine, Surface Book 2 with 16MB of RAM and more than 250 GB of available space...yet I am finding significant lag in performance while working in SL360...particularly when using layer features. I was using SL360 on a MacBook using parallel windows and thought this new machine wouldn't encounter these lag issues which definitely impact my production. Any suggestive remedies? Is 16MB of RAM enough, or is there another issue I may be overlooking?
With the computer specifications you provided, there shouldn't be noticeable lag while working in Storyline 360. I am opening up a Support Case on your behalf so our Support Engineers can investigate further!
Please be on the lookout from an email from Articulate Support!

Hello Joy and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue with your project.
Curious if the issue happens in any course you are working on or just this particular one?
If you cannot re-create the issue in a new course, I would advise to import the file into a new one and proceed.
