One variable, two actions?

Is it possible to have one variable trigger two separate actions?

I'm thinking not, based on my failure to use one variable to change the states of two objects.

It works with two separate variables. I was hoping to use just the one variable to keep likelihood of errors creeping in during revisions to a minimum.
