I got this information from here "Storyline 2 will open Storyline 1 files but not vice versa, Storyline 2 cannot save to open in Storyline 1"
Aside from this, I would like to know, will I encounter problems if I open courses built in Storyline 1, using Storyline 2? I will download the trial version of SL 2 but before I do that, I would like to make sure that there will no be no error/s and/or problem/s that will be encountered if I'll do so. Thank you!
Welcome to the community! When you upgrade the files to Storyline 2, it will automatically save a back up version in Storyline one, in case you need to go back to that file. But you are correct that anything created or edited with Storyline 2 cannot be re opened in Storyline 1 later on.
I've just answered my own question, the file had not downloaded properly before I tried to open it! It is now opening correctly Storyline 2.
Funnily enough, I actually blogged about this recently, so in a shameless act of self-promotion I'm going to post a link to my blog! It turns out I have not learned my lesson at all!

i was doing my project in story line 2 and i save it and yesterday was my last day using the free trial of articulate story line 2 but when i i wanted to download the free trial today it was replaced with story line 3 .i was wondering if story line 3 can open my story line 2 save files

Welcome to the community! When you upgrade the files to Storyline 2, it will automatically save a back up version in Storyline one, in case you need to go back to that file. But you are correct that anything created or edited with Storyline 2 cannot be re opened in Storyline 1 later on.

you can open your SL2 course in SL3 and the following will occur:
You will then work in SL3 on the upgraded file. Changes made in the SL3 file will not be able to be opened in SL2 (it is not backwards compatible)
