pause a timeline from a layer

Mar 13, 2013

Is there a way to allow the user to pause the presentation if they are currently viewing a layer?

Example:  They are viewing layer 3 of 8 on a slide.  They need to pause the presentation to write down a note.  How can I provide a way to do this.  Pausing the seek bar doesn't work on layers. I want this to be available for the entire project, not just a slide that has x number of layers.

Thank you,

Lis

Lis,  if I understand your problem correctly, then I have been able to "pause" the slide layers by using the "seek bar".  I set following slide layer properties:

1: Hide other slide layers

2: Allow seeking - Yes

3: Pause timeline of base layer

By activating "allow seeking", I could now use the seek bar to play and pause and seek the slide layer as well.

Do you think this may work in your situation.

Now I have another use case in which I am unable to do this:  This is when I am going back and forth between my base layer and the slide layers.  So basically, think of my base layer to be the DJ who is playing music tracks and my slide layers to be tracks the DJ initiates.  Now when the base layer (DJ) introduces a track, the slide layer (music track) starts to play.  As soon as the track gets over, the timeline gets back to the DJ or the base layer and now the DJ or the base layer starts another track and now the next slide layer starts to play.

Now in order to avoid any overlap of audio tracks, I had to disable the seek bar option in the base layer.  Now because of this, I cannot use the "allow seeking" on the slide layer as well, which is fine since I do not want the user to seek the music track anyway.  But I do want him to be able to pause and resume - so exactly the thing that you described - you want the user to pause and take down notes and then resume the layer.

Does anyone have any ideas how to do this:  I did try implementing the pause and play through a pause layer for each slide layer, and it works fine to simply pause the timeline so that the student does not miss out on the content if he needs to grab a drink of water, but if the intention is to pause and take down notes, then this solution does not work.  Here is why - when "pause" button is pressed, it takes away everything from the slide so now the student cannot really take down notes and hence the whole purpose of pausing is defeated.

I know I have written a lot of words.  I will be happy to do a screenr to explain my problem if the above description does not help.

Waiting anxiously for some solution to this problem.  You know if we just had one more option in the slide layer properties "Pause timeline of the active slide layer", then this issue would have been very easily fixed.  Now its easy for me to say this, but its a whole different matter as to how easy it is to implement this.
