Pausing a Zoom on the base layer

Aug 21, 2017

I have a slide that starts on a zoom in order to create a pan-out effect.  The problem I'm having is that I want the pan out effect to start after a layer plays (instead of happening first) and right now the zoom is happening on the layer (which I don't want).  The layer is triggered as soon as the timeline on the base layer starts, and I have set the layer to pause the base layer, but it doesn't seem to "pause" the zoom. Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi there Catherine! Thanks so much for bringing this up, as I don't see it has been mentioned before in the forums. I'm seeing the same thing you're seeing in Storyline 360. Is that the version of Storyline you're using? I’ll meet with my team to take a closer look at this behavior so that we can verify this is a bug.

To get around it, you may want to avoid using layers and use separate slides instead. If you'd like help with that, attach a sample of your file here, and I'll get you started.

Thanks again for letting us know what's going on. I'll be sure to let you know if I get an update on this!

Thanks Alyssa - I'm actually using Storyline 2.  I was using the layers as I was trying to play continuous music.  I did find another way to add music (thanks to this forum), so I was able to use different slides rather than layers.  That said, I still think it's worth figuring out why the zoom can't be paused at the beginning of a slide when using layers.  Look forward to hearing what you find out.

Hi, Catherine. Good news! We fixed the issue you reported where pausing a zoom region on the base layer wasn't working when another layer was opened.

Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes. Here's how.

If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
