Pausing the Storyline Timeline resets Video to beginning

Jan 30, 2019

Hello Everyone,

First time poster here...

I'm working on a very basic module with embedded MP4  videos. I want text and shapes to appear at certain points into throughout the video.

Issue:

Up until last week I was able to pause the timeline and the video would pause as well and the current frame would appear on the screen, which would allow me to position my shapes and text properly on the current screen.

However, now when I pause the timeline the video pauses at the point in the timeline I paused it, but the video frame resets to the beginning which makes it nigh impossible to position the text and shapes correctly.  When I reactivate the timeline the video jumps right back to where it was paused from. I've attached a short clip of what I'm experiencing.

Version:

I'm running Storyline 360.

All objects, including the video, are on the base layer of the slide

Thank you in advance for any guidance that can be offered.

Hi Brad,

Thanks so much for including that screen recording! I'm seeing the same problem. The playhead doesn't show the correct frame in the video when pausing the timeline. Instead it displays the first frame of the video.

I'm really sorry you ran into this issue. I'm going to share this with my team so we can begin investigating this behavior. I'll keep you posted on what I find out!

Hi Alyssa

I'm having more or less the same problem.  When I play the video and stop it to insert a marker, it jumps back to the start.  When I manually move the playhead marker to the seconds where I want to insert a marker the video does not respond at all.   It was fine until I did the updates yesterday .  I am on a deadline and need this fixed asap please.

Thanks in advance

Just adding my support for requesting a quick fix for this issue. Adding and perfectly positioning custom elements on a screen recording to highlight things to enhance learning is now very difficult. I plan to roll back but have a complex project and am nervous about breaking other elements.

Thanks in advance for your work to resolve this issue :)

Hey everyone. I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 27 for Storyline 360! It includes new features and bug fixes. Here are all the details.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where the timeline preview wasn't showing the right video frame when moving the playhead.

Here’s how you can update Storyline 360 to take advantage of everything the latest release has to offer. Let me know how you make out!
