Pausing Video & Displaying Text

Dec 17, 2014

Hi Everyone!

I have a number of video clips for our course that have two parts: the wrong way and the right way.  I want to be able to have the clip pause at certain points whilst a text box and pre-recorded voiceover appears at the freeze frame.  The idea is that once the learner has finished reading the text box and the voiceover is finished, they can trigger the video to begin playing again until the next freezeframe point.  There are about 4 points per video I want this to happen.

Is there a way to do this using triggers and cue points or do I have to split the video into separate parts and do it in sections?!

Many thanks in advance for any help offered.

Hey, Naomi.

If you have Storyline 2, check out this thread for more information. It's not a perfect solve, but it may do what you're trying to accomplish.

If you're working with Storyline 1, I suggest just creating multiple layers and cropping the videos accordingly. On the back end it looks clunky with so many layers. To users, though, it appears seamless using smooth transitions and animations.

Hello Naomi!

Here also, is a tutorial on using cue points. Storyline 2 also has a trigger to allow something to happen at a specific time in the timeline. (when timeline reaches)  If you want the text to appear at lets say 10 seconds in, you can, and make sure you set that text layer to "pause timeline of base layer"

Then you can trigger to close this text layer, or set it to close when the media (voiceover) is completed.
