Poor sound output while recording Screencast videos.

Nov 29, 2015

Hi Friends,

I am currently building screencasts simulations in Storyline2 and am thoroughly dissatisfied with the sound output. The process that I follow is recording the screen and having a narrator explain the system steps in the screencast.

I then save the recording as a single video slide, and then inserting it in Storyline.

In spite of recording it in a sound proof room, there is still lots of echo and white noise. Have tried all options of extracting the audio from the MP4 file and then editing it using Audacity, but still unable to enhance the audio.

Can anyone help or advice how can I deal with this issue? Am I missing a step here?

Attaching an edited MP4 file for a listen.

Thanks heaps,

Ze

Hi Ze,

Thanks for sharing the audio file here with us. It sounds like it's got a bit of an echo or being recorded in a hollow cave? That's the best way I could describe it. Have you played around with the audio settings here? Looked at testing a different microphone? This post is a bit older but includes some good tips for recording audio that you may want to look into.

Hi Ashley,

I did, however I must admit that before the recording I had not switched to the headset option and recorded it using internal microphone of the laptop.

I suspect that would be an issue. I am going to re-record today with a noise cancelling headphone and headset option. Will let you know if it works or not.

Thanks heaps for your response.

Hi Ze,

The internal microphone may be a part of the issue - although I often record that way and don't notice such an echo as your example. Also I've heard users mention that having the laptop plugged in vs. not tends to have an impact as well. All things to consider before you re-record and maybe do a quick test recording?

Hi Ashley,

Have tried recording using the headsets . The upside is that all white noise in the background is gone however, there are still jumps in the audio, which I am unable to understand what is causing it in spite of using a professional voiceover artist.

What is it that I can do to rectify it?

Please find the revised recording attached.

Thanks heaps,

Ze

Hi Ze,

I don't know if I'm hearing "jumps" in the audio - but I am hearing the "clicks" which may not be something you're able to remedy unless those click sounds are coming from the actual system where you're recording. I can't tell if it's that or the actual act of clicking a button that would be making that noise and capturing with probably a good headset/microphone could pick it up.

If that's not what you're referring to could you point me towards a specific section where you're hearing the jumps in the audio?
