Position and Sizing of Objects

Jul 29, 2020

I am fairly new to using Storyline, and I am having a lot of problems with the  positioning of objects and sizing. Even though an object has exact same size and position numbers in XY/HW the object is still 'jumping' visibly between slides and in previews.

Or an object that looks to visually line up side by side with another shape in the slide design view, when published or previewed has space between it. Or if i attempt to use the arrows on the keyboard to move an object 1px, it jumps down and over about 10 units.

I need some guidance on whether I have some settings wrong, I am doing something wrong, or if this is just bugs I have to live with. The inconsistencies between design, preview and publish are driving me crazy. Thanks in advance.

Hi Monica,

If you want to have the same object in the same position in two or more different slides, the best way is to select it on the first slide and copy it. Then go to each of the additional slides where you want that object to show and paste the object onto the slide. It should paste into exactly the same position and should not require moving.

If you have to move an object and it appears to be jumping, make sure that you are not set to Snap to Grid as this will cause the object to jump across one grid square each time you click the arrow key. Alternatively, if you know that you want to limit your movement to, for example, 2px each time, then set your grid size to 2px and select Snap to Grid.

The Grid settings can be found by selecting "Grid and Guides" from the View menu:
