Problem dragging items within a scrolling panel

May 18, 2017

Hi,

I am having a problem trying to create a drag & drop interaction.

I want my users to be able to drag 9 items (images) and drop them onto the correct spot in a grid (3x3, 9 cell grid, rectangle acting as the drop element).

I don't want to crowd my slide, so I have put my 9 images into a scrolling panel. I am using triggers to create the drag/drop action.

However I can't seem to be able to drag the images out of the scrolling panel. Is there a trick I am missing?

I also tried putting the images into a rectangle and grouping them together, then using motion path and buttons to move the rectangle up and down - but again I couldn't seem to drag the individual images.

I have tried looking in previous discussions but haven't been able to work out whether this is achievable or how (if it is).

Can anyone help? Or suggest an alternative method to avoid crowding my slide - I'd really like to keep the 9 elements together as this makes sense in terms of the 9 step process I'm trying to present.

Hi Alyssa,

I feared that it wasn't something I could do.

In the end I have altered the story slide size, and taken out the menu (which I don't really need). So I have a bit more space to place the images. It looks compatible with the other etutorials I have. It is only intended as a short flashcard-revision tutorial so I think it will look OK.

I've included a screen-shot so if you do think of another way to do this let me know.

Thanks for sharing the screenshot, Cheryl! We've got some very talented designers who hang out in this community, and I'm sure they'll have suggestions to share with you. You may also want to post the question in the Building Better Courses side of the forums, since that's where folks typically go for instructional design ideas.
