Problem with course completion

Jun 25, 2014

Six courses were authored in Articulate Storyline by an employee no longer with us. We've discovered 2 of the 6 courses do not register as complete. The other 4 complete just fine.

I have uploaded the 2 "broken" courses and 1 of the properly completing courses into SCORM Cloud and have confirmed that, indeed, the problem exists there too.

In looking for a pattern I notice that the 2 that don't complete (show as incomplete) both involve a slide with a multiple choice question. The working ones do not (show as passed). Even when the slide with the Q&A is answered correctly it still shows as incomplete. From what I've read about different conditions of course completion, perhaps the wrong completion conditions are in place?

In SCORM Cloud the Course Properties look identical in both the working and not working courses so I cannot see what to change. What we want is for the complete condition to be based on viewing all of the slides and not on the question and answer slide.

What do I need to change in SCORM Cloud so those two courses will complete properly and I can export/version and reimport into our Absorb LMS?

Thank you for your help!

Hi Leela - welcome to Heroes!

Do the multiple choice questions in the 2 courses that are 'broken' need to be answered correctly to register the courses as complete? If they do, you'll need to insert a results slide that captures the users score and ensure that the tracking is set to "Track using quiz result" before you republish to LMS.

I suspect that the courses that don't have the MCQ and do work as expected were published to track by number of slides viewed?

Hi and thank you for responding...

No, we do not want the question to need to be answered correctly in order to complete. We just want them to view all of the slides. There is one slide that asks the question and the next slide is either a Correct or Incorrect slide depending on their answer. But, again, we'd rather not have this as the completion criteria as it is a small part of the course and they have many more slides to see.

We want to set it to complete if they view all of the slides. Again, the settings seem to be the same in SCORM Cloud for both the completing and non-completing courses. I did not author the course, another past employee did. I am trying to reverse engineer it and fix it in SCORM Cloud, if possible.

Again, how do I change the completion condition within SCORM Cloud so the course completes if you watch all of the slides (leaving the Q&A functional but not a part of completion)?

I have the SCORM zips for the courses and we do have a copy of Storyline. Can the zip be reopened in Storyline and completion requirements modified? Or one of the files hand modified?

I am in need of a link/instructions to how to either make that modification in Storyline or what code needs to be changed. Specifically changing the completion settings so viewing all slides mark it as complete.

Hi Leela,

If you only have the published files, there is not a way to change that publish setting - you'd need the original .story file which is the file prior to publishing. It may be something that someone else in the community has done before, but we don't support modifications to the published output so I'll have to defer to the forums.

Hi Leela,

The easiest and the best way is to modify the settings within Storyline and republish all courses.

If the SCORE of a Quiz is not the passing/completion criteria then Number of slides viewed can be. Let me know if number of slides viewed solves your problem, if it doesnot, then there is another work around.

Thanks,
