Problems Publishing to Web for Storyline

May 15, 2014

I have been trying to publish to Web for a Homework assignment from a Storyline class I just completed last week.  Every time I try to publish to Web it never completes.  I never get to the Publish successful widow.  I have also tried this on another course that my teammate is developing and I am getting the same results.  We want to view these courses on the Articulate Tempshare site but are unable as I can never get the success window to save the zip file.  Please Help!

Thanks - Heather Williams

Hi Heather and welcome to Heroes!

I'm sorry to hear about the odd publishing behavior. First I'd want to check that you're working on a local .story file and trying to publish to a local drive as described here.

Also, if you're working with local project files but the behavior continues when publishing I'd also suggest conducting the repair of Storyline detailed here.

Please let us know how it goes after checking into those elements.

Ashley,

Thanks for your response.  I tried both of your suggestions (using local files and re-installing Storyline) to avail.  Yes, one of the Storyline files I was trying to publish was on a shared network drive but I also tried a local file I had created and stored on my hard drive.  I have tried publishing numerous times and the application still craps out and does not complete getting to the Publish Successful window.  Is this something I should  submit a support ticket for? When I originally posted my question here I wasn't aware of the support site.  This is starting to get a little frustrating because I am also having problems when I publish my Web files to Dropbox and I am not successful in viewing the content after following some screenr recordings that Articulate support sent me.  I also am frustrated because the majority of courses my team will be creating are software simulations which tend to be large files (even without the narration completed).  Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Heather,

You're always welcome to connect directly with our Support engineers or reach out for help here in the forums. Whichever method you'd prefer is ok with us.

Are you publishing the files to Dropbox, or placing within Dropbox after published? I ask, because if you're trying to publish to Dropbox - you'll want to ensure that dropbox is a local install (the usual set up) as Storyline should be edited and published to a local drive.

If you've conducted the repair, and confirmed that a new file you've started on your local drive isn't publishing, we'll definitely want to take a look at that file and help narrow down where the issue is occurring. You can upload the file here in the forums using the paper clip icon or attach it on the second page of the support link I included above. If you choose to go the route of a support case, feel free to let me know the case number and I'll follow along.

Ashley,

I have tried numerous times to Web publish two different story files to both my hard drive and to Dropbox drive on my computer.  Each time it fails before getting to the Publish Successful screen.  I also cannot attach either story file to this posting.  I get the following Server Error message.

404 - File or directory not found.

The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

I am wondering if the number of slides is causing the problem as one file is 269 slides and the other 171 slides.  Anyway, I am getting a bit frustrated since I cannot publish to web and need to see how the larger of the two projects would look to our customer and see if we need to tweak it before adding narration to the project.  Any suggestions?

Thanks - Heather Williams

Hi Heather,

It's likely that the file is too larger to load here in the forums (around a 20 mb limit) but the overall size shouldn't prohibit you from publishing your content. When you say it fails before the publish successful screen - do you receive an error message or the window just closes and it doesn't publish? Can you see if it stops on a particular slide (typically you'll see in the publishing window that it's publishing 32 of 58 slides or similar)? Can you try to publish a brand new Storyline file - even just one slide with a textbox or image and let us know if that file publishes?

If you'd like to send along one of the files to our Support team we can take a look and if you'd prefer to send to me directly I can send you directions on how to send along.

Ashley,

I started a new project and messed with a bit and got it to publish to Tempshare and I am able to run the simulation and the test simulation as well.  http://s3.amazonaws.com/tempshare-stage.storyline.articulate.com/stp18okruo741j4l14adql12rptq64/story.html.  It is a small simulation under 2 minutes and under 30 slides in the test mode. I will try larger projects to see if I have any additional problems.

Thanks,

Heather
