Publishing to mobile devices - WCAG2 compliance

Nov 25, 2015

Hi all,

I've got an elearning project for government (Australia) on the horizon. I will need to ensure everything I create meets WCAG2 requirements.

I’m pre-empting a problem. I’ve got a pretty good understanding of the standard and I’m handy in Storyline. On this occasion however, my end users will be accessing content on mobile devices. My previous government work has all been on desktops.

My understanding is Storyline’s HTML output isn’t compliant with WCAG2 (for some reason I think it’s got to do with the screen reader). I’m actually finding it hard to find information on any authoring tool re: html output and meeting WCAG2. My work will go through a rigorous accessibility check on handover. I think they currently build their courses in a WYSIWYG HTML editor. My content will also need to be SCORM compliant.

It would be awesome if I could push out HTML WCAG2 compliant content using Storyline. The thought of doing my work in something like Dreamweaver is pretty unappealing.

Would anyone have any insights on creating WCAG compliant content for mobile devices?

 Thank you in advance :)

Ben

Hi, Ben -- Thanks for reaching out with your question! According to this article

With the release of Update 5 for Articulate Storyline, we added support for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. See this article for details on how to author content that's WCAG compliant.

To take advantage of the new features and fixes, including WCAG support, install the latest version from the link in your product confirmation email or download it here, then republish your course.

Note that WCAG is supported in Flash output only.

Hi David,

The latest version o Lectora met the WCAG2 requirements on mobile devices. It's also responsive (Storyline isn't).

I'm working with a new client that requires WCAG2 on all devices. Will probably go down the same pathway. I like Storyline but it just doesn't meet this requirement.
