I'm new to storyline and I am trying to publish my .story file as an mp4, but when I preview it all the text and effects are gone and only the background video is present.
Jennifer--One thing you can do it use Articulate Replay to record your Storyline file as it plays. Replay has very, very limited editing capabilities--but it publishes to Mp4. And yes, please do submit this as a feature request for Storyline; I'm putting together a list of feature requests, and that's one of my top items! The more people request a feature, the more likelihood there is that it will receive attention from the developers.

Storyline doesn't have a publish to a single file, although it's something you're welcome to request as a new feature here.

I have a thought as a work around - although I haven't tried it, so it's all theory.
In theory, you could publish your course for the Web.
Start a new Storyline file, and set it to record your screen.
Then view your course in your web browser, and let storyline record it.
After the recording is done, and the Insert slides window pops up, you could right click on it and export it as a mp4
It seems like the long way to do things, but in theory, it should work.
