Ok so I know that in text I can reference a variable by putting %variablename% but what I want to do at the mo is a teeny tiny bit of math to it. Is there a way to wrap a formula in? What I want it to do is;
You have [3-%QuizCounter%] tries remaining.
So basically countdown to zero from 3 tries at the activity. Seems simple enough but is there a way to do that?

You have to do the math first with trigger(s), store the result in a variable and then reference that results variable in a textbox.
I couldn't figure how to do that so I did a new variable starting at 3 and subtracting one every time the try again page is shown which seems to work.
Cheers.
Glad you were able to figure something out Bruce and thanks for sharing the solution and update here.
Bruce,
That IS the way to do it.
An alternative would be
Adjust variable TriesLeft Assign = 3
Adjust variable TriesLeft Subtract QuizCounter and then show TriesLeft.
You may decide your way wasn't so bad after all. :)
