Question: Hiding Browser Chrome with SL3
Oct 26, 2017
Hello,
Looking for some guidance on SL3. We are switching our course delivery almost entirely to IPad and tablet, so I have been investigating upgrading all of our licences from SL2 to SL3. The main reason is that with the responsive player, the browser chrome is supposed to be hidden. After downloading the SL3 demo, this does not seem to be the case. When I publish the HTML5 file, upload it to S3 and then open the link on my IPad (tried Chrome and Safari), the courses does not hide the browser chrome. In the preview on SL3 and the promo videos I have watched, it looks as if it supposed to be full screen.
Am I missing something that I have to adjust in the player setting to make this happen? When I'm selecting my player, my only option is the Storyline Player, is there supposed to be a Responsive Player option? I've read all the articles on tutorials and don't seem to be able to find an answer. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi Aidan,
The responsive player will show automatically based on the device you're using and if you've published to include HTML5. You'll see our general FAQs on the Responsive player for Storyline 3, and I assume the images you're referring to are the ones there?
I've seen the browser chrome still appear for some users based on loading the Web or LMS version of their content, and based on the device/OS used.
Hi there, Aidan! The responsive player will show automatically on mobile devices - you don't need to adjust anything in the authoring end.
In iOS devices, Mobile Safari will show browser bars in portrait mode, but landscape mode should bring the course full screen. Check out my screencast of the expected behavior.
If you are in landscape mode and have browser bars, you can touch the screen and drag up to remove it.
You can also orient the device to portrait mode and then back to landscape mode, and that will remove the browser bars.
In Chrome on an iOS device, you'll see browser bars in both portrait and landscape modes. In Chrome on an Android device, it does not show browser bars. When using the physical "back" button on an Android device, bars reappear.
We're investigating whether we can expand the chromeless experience to both Safari and Google Chrome on all devices, so I'm going to tag your discussion for updates on our progress!
Crystal, is there any way to get rid of the browser chrome in SL3? Does this issue happen in 360?
Hi there, Patrick. Can you let me know what device you're using to view the content, and also what browser? Thanks!
I can use help on this. We have a SL360 project for mobile iOS and the safari bar is causing issues with the content being displayed. Having the option to remove access to the browser and only use the storyline player would be fantastic for the storyline 360 proprietary player.
Yes! This DOES NOT WORK on mobile Safari. I have reported this multiple times and there is still no resolution. It works fine on mobile Chrome.
Hi there, Bryan and Anthony. Thank you both for reaching out! There have been some changes to the way Storyline content displays in mobile Safari since updates for both Safari and Storyline have been released.
For example, we were seeing issues with buttons low on the slide causing browser chrome to reappear and block those buttons. Most recently, we haven't been able to reproduce that behavior. Anthony, it seemed like you had reported similar behavior here.
So that I can investigate what's happening on your end, can you each let me know the following:
I'll be ready to help further!
Hi Guys,
Any update on this issue?
Just got Storyline 3 today and tried using my android phone and chrome to run through a course to test out the new responsive player but the browser is still showing in both portrait and landscape... Kind of annoying as this was a big factor for upgrading to SL3...
Any advice on how to sort it out?
Thanks in advance!
Niall, I added the following code to the story_html5.html file in the header and it helped on some devices. Outside of this, I'm not sure what else can be done.
At the time it was iOS v11.4.1
Hi Niall,
I think I answered a similar question of yours earlier today, and our team is still looking into an issue where the browser bar displays on Android Chrome on a mobile phone.
We'll keep you posted on that here.
Thanks, Bryan. We still have an open issue for the Responsive Player in Storyline 3 that does not show full screen in iOS Safari or Chrome so I can add that iOS version too.
Hi Bryan, thanks a lot for your comments!
When you say you added it to the header, do you mean within the Storyline file itself before publishing?
I actually added it to the published version of the html file.
All the best,
Bryan

Hey folks. I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 25 for Storyline 360! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.
One of the fixes addresses an issue where a course could shrink when resumed on an Android phone because the browser chrome was showing.
Here’s how you can update Storyline 360 to take advantage of everything the latest release has to offer. Let me know how you make out!
