Quiz results shows only answered question.

Apr 23, 2015

Hi There,

Working with Storyline 2, I have 65 question banks for which I do not submit after each question to allow the user to review and modify the answer, instead I use the forward and backward buttons. When the results are submitted, it shows score only for the answered questions. All the unanswered question are just ignored in the grade calculation. Is there a way to insure unanswered question are also part of the calculation as failed?

Thanks

Alain

Hi Alain,

Unanswered questions should be included as a part of the grading as you'll see described here.  So if your course is behaving differently, I think we'd want to first know if you're working on local project files as described here, and where/how you're testing the course (preview, locally, within the publish environment)? You may want to try importing it into a new .story file as described here to resolve any odd issues.

If the behavior persists after checking into the above, can you share a copy of the .story file here for us to take a look at?

Hi Alain,

I'm not sure if you tried to attach a file here, but replying via email doesn't include file attachments as a part of the reply here. You'll need to visit the forums page to upload files or images. Also, just an FYI replying via email does include your signature here as a part of the post, so you're welcome to edit the post to remove that information if you wish.

Hi Alain,

Thanks for sharing your project and I've been reviewing it. You mentioned a submit interaction trigger, and I'm curious if you could point me to which slide that is on? I'm having a difficult time following your course set up, so I'm looking to pair it down to just a few questions and slides to see the behavior.

Hi Alain,

My apologies - it seems I didn't see your last reply, so hadn't gotten back into this thread.

I see the submit interaction trigger you're referring to, and since there is no interaction on that page - there is nothing to submit. So I'm not sure about why you've included that trigger there.

In regards to your questions and scores calculating - I see the 100% when I answer all the questions correctly in Scene 2 for example, and then when I answer nothing in Scene 3, I see a score of 0. So I'm not able to replicate the same thing right off the bat - could you tell us the steps you're going through to see this?

Since you're only having the user pull one question per scene, and considering it correct for the entire results slide that is tracking that section, I wonder if it would be easier to include the question banks all in one scene and then just use one results slide to track by? This way you'd still get a random pull from each question bank, and it would be easier for the user to navigate using the next buttons - as currently the question bank next buttons are set to go to the next slide so they get stuck in the scene.

Hi Ashley,

Sorry, was teaching solid last two weeks...

The issues is when one or more questions are answered but not all, say you answer 1 question correctly and skip all the others. Your end results will be 100% even if you answered 1 out  65 questions.

In reality, there are multiple questions per section, and each sections are for specific topics. This way, it allows me to return which sections are to be revised if the fail the exam. I have attached the final version.

In your Knowledge base for quiz you write "But what if you want all the questions to be submitted at the same time at the end of the quiz? You can do that, too. Just change the navigation controls from Submit buttons to Prev/Next buttons." So that is what I did and put the submit interaction at the end of the quiz as stated. Since I am allowing the users to go back and forth within the quiz and allow them to change their answer after reviewing. Should the submit be put in the individual results section. Not sure what that will change as the submit is not referencing to specific questions...

The questions are split by topics, I need to allow the student to revised and change answer up to when he is ready to submit at the end. Since the end slide is the navigation slide allowing to navigate to any question, of course it is not an interaction slide.

Not sure where to go from here...
