Quizzes: printed version of PowerPoint

Jan 02, 2014

Hello,

We are creating our first online course with Articulate. We always print books to accompany our online learning. We are adding a new component that we have never had before - quizzes. We are running into an issue with this, as we notice that the print version of the PowerPoint now outputs a page with behind-the-scenes type information (showing the quiz coding instructions) that we do not want our students to see. Is there a way to change the look of this slide so that it is simply a pacer slide without all of that information displayed?

Additionally, we have page numbers on the slides. So the online version needs to match the printed version for easy reference.

I appreciate any help that anyone can provide!

Thanks.

Hi Tracy and welcome to Heroes!

When you publish a Storyline course to Word (which would allow for ease of printing and showing each slide) you can choose to show the notes and individual layers or not.  If there is additional information you'd need to remove, you'd like need to make a copy of your course for printing purposes only and update those slides before publishing to Word or manually make any of the changes once you've generated the Word copy (such as blacking out elements on the slide images, etc.).

Hi Tracy,

My apologies if I confused you, as this was posted in the Storyline forum. When your in Presenter you also will have the publish to Word option, and when you publish you can choose how much information to include in the output type:

  1. The Output type drop-down determines how much information gets included in the Word document:
    • Storyboard: This option gives you a 3-column layout that includes detailed slide information, a thumbnail image of each slide, and the text from PowerPoint's notes pane.
    • Presenter Notes: This gives you a simple Word document that lists each slide number, slide title, and the text from PowerPoint's notes pane.

That's OK! Sorry for posting on the wrong forum to begin with. Thank you for the explanation, but unfortunately publishing to Word is not an option for us.

I do have another question ... I notice that we are supposed to do all creating and publishing on a hard drive, and not a network. Currently all of our material is on a network. My company's controls are hindering me from saving anything to the C drive. If I am the only person working in this file, is it OK for me to place it on the network and work within it there?

Thanks.

No worries. If you publish to Word you could always turn it into a PDF?

In regards to the Network drive, we recommend always working on local project files as you'll see described here. It's not just about other people accessing the file, but about how your network may be syncing or backing up while your working and what impact that could have on your production. If you have to work from a network drive, I'd suggest ensuring you keep a back up copy of your files in the event something does happen while you're in the files making changes.
