Recorded Screen Capture Disappears from the slide

Jul 10, 2013

I have a course with a couple of recorded simulations and have done this many times in the past, but never seen this behavior.

The slide has the recorded screen image as well as captions which I added and audio.

Expected behavior is for user to click a button to advance the slide.

The recorded screen image is disappearing from the screen and leaving all the captions.

I can't find anything in the slide that is triggering that behavior.

All help gladly accepted!

Thanks so much Christine - I certainly looked at that first; since this is a recorded screen, the image should be "embedded" on the slide and I can't figure any reason why the graphic should disappear while the slide is still running.

I am attaching a partial .story file.

The problem appears in slides 3 and 4.

Really appreciate your eyes on this; I'm out of ideas!  I'm hoping this file attached properly

Hi there Doris,

I'm afraid I can't say why this happened, but the good news is that I believe it have it all fixed for you.

I reinserted the recordings and replaced the additional content onto the slides that were generated by the original screen recording from the project. All seems to be working just fine now.

Can you take a look and test this out on your end, please?

Thanks!

Christine: Apologies for taking so long to respond - I only work a few days a week.

You're a genius!  This looks great!  Is this something I should have been able to fix?  I had never seen this anomoly before and spent quite a bit of time working on it, but to no avail.

Can you share your secret?

Thanks!!!

I am experiencing the same issue.  I have added audio to my slides and half way through the background screens that were recorded disappear and I get a white screen instead.  I can still see the captions and the mouse movement only the recorded background is gone.  I have checked the timeline, nothing extends beyond the duration of timeline.  I am at a loss and not sure how to fix this.  Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Hi Chris,

It looks like with Doris's file, Christine had to reinsert elements of the screen recording which are included as a part of your .story file. You can add it again using the little drop down arrow from the "Record screen" button as described here.

It's also a good reminder to follow these guidelines for working with your Storyline files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

You can also try importing the entire Storyline file into a new project, to try and resolve any unusual behavior,  following the steps here.
