Removal of the Black Screen at the start of the Articulate Storyline Module

Dec 20, 2021

Dear Articulate Team,

Hope You'll well!

We wanted a quick fix solution to the storyline module as to how can we be able to remove the black screen with the play button at the start of the module. (Please see the attachment for more details)

We wanted to represent our solution to the client without the black screen preferably OR at least be able to change the style of the page?

Your quick solution would be appreciated.

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Atith!

Some web browsers, such as Google Chrome and Safari, no longer allow audio and video content to autoplay. Here's an article with more details.

You can customize the play button screen by adding a course cover photo or a slide before the slide with media, similar to Dayn's workflow.

Let us know if this helps!

Hello,

I am currently publishing an eLearning course for my company that includes six Storyline files. All six files have been uploaded to our LMS (a very old system, just FYI). The first of the six, the "intro" course, is displaying a black screen with a play icon that requires the user to click it in order for the lesson to begin playing. I would like to get rid of that black screen and have the lesson begin playing without the user needing to click the play button.

The other five lessons do not exhibit this behavior. Our LMS will only work for our users if they are using Firefox, so that is the browser we are dealing with.

I have been checking out some other forums for this issue. One was saying that having media (audio/video) on the first slide can cause the black screen to appear. My first slide did have audio, so I tried to create a "dummy" first slide with nothing on it and a trigger to automatically jump to the first slide of my intro lesson when the timeline begins. Despite that effort, I am still seeing the black screen with the play button.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hi Jake,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community! ✨

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue with your course! Some web browsers don't allow audio and video content to autoplay, so we added a play button to courses that have media on the first slide to correct the issue.

One thing you can try is adding an image to your course in the modern player.

  • Navigate to Player on your Home ribbon
  • Check the Cover Photo box and choose a photo to upload
  • Once you've selected an image, click the file name link to refresh the preview area on the right so you can see how the image looks.

If you need assistance, please feel free to upload your file here or privately in a support case so we can take a look!
