Replaying a Screen Recording Plays Too Fast

Mar 03, 2017

I realise there could be things outside of Storyline to consider; however here's my problem ... I've created a screen recording in Storyline 2 and inserted slides via the "step-by-step slides" option. When I run (for the first time) the published course, the "view-mode" step plays ok; but when I replay the "view-mode" recording (without exiting the course) it speeds up and plays way too fast. I've published to CD and SCORM 2004, and I experience the same problem.

As I mentioned earlier, there could be other factors at play here (other than Storyline) - I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Kim!

Thanks for letting us know what's happening. After you publish the course, what do you do next to test it?

  • If you publish for CD, you'll want to double-click the Launch_Story.exe file in the published output to view the course.
  • If you publish for LMS SCORM 2004, you'll want to upload it to your LMS before you test it. You can also test it in SCORM Cloud, which is industry standard for LMS testing.

The main thing is to avoid testing the content on your local hard drive, meaning you click View after you publish. Testing published content locally can cause various features of your content to fail, so you'll want to view it as your learners would.

Hi Alyssa

I've tested it on our LMS (LightspeedVT - hosted on Amazon's servers), SCORM Cloud and via the publishing for CD option (.exe) - and have the same problem: plays ok first time but if I rerun it (without exiting the course) it plays twice as fast.

Thanks for your help - I'll investigate this and post an update if I resolve it.

Hi again Kim!

Thanks for that information. When you tested in your LMS and SCORM Cloud, what browser were you using? I created a quick sample course and uploaded it to SCORM Cloud here. Give that link a try, and let me know how it looks on your end.

If you're still having trouble, I'd like to have our Support Engineers take a closer look at your file. You can send it to them directly using this link, and be sure to let me know your case number so I can follow along!

Hi Alyssa

Your example runs ok; however, my player is configured different and I have a main menu where you can rerun the "view" demo.

I'm looking at browser issues at the moment - on IE it runs fast when rerunning and on Firefox it hangs at the first screen when rerunning.

All a bit odd - but it's not a game stopper at the moment, so the issue is on my to-do-later list.

Thanks Alyssa I appreciate your help.

Is it possible you're viewing the HTML5 version of the content? If so, you'll want to use Chrome, since IE and Firefox aren't supported for SL2 HTML5 content:

Flash:

Windows: Internet Explorer 8 and later, Microsoft Edge (latest version), Google Chrome (latest version), Firefox (latest version)

Mac: Safari 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version)

HTML5:

Windows: Google Chrome (latest version)

Mac: Safari 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version)

Mobile: Safari in Apple iOS 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version) in Android OS 4.1 and later

Thanks for that update, Kim. I know you said this is not a game changer for you and it's on your to-do-later list, but I did want to share the link you can use to open a support case, in case you decide you'd like us to investigate this further. And if you do decide to open a case, be sure to let me know the case number so I can follow along. :)
