Restart a try scene slide

Jun 23, 2020

Hello. I would like to know what I can do to restart a try scene slide from a recorded scream. I have recorded a process in which the learners needs to type a specific entry or combination of words to perform an action, but when they enter the wrong answer instead of moving the next slide, I want them to redo the same slide because on the feedback box I will display to them the correct answer. I want to know if that is something that can be done using a trigger or a different command. Thanks in advance!

Hi Carlos,

Great question!

When using the text entry interaction for a Try Mode slide, I first check the settings for the number of attempts allowed. If there is a limited amount of attempts, the learner could get the question incorrect and be able to proceed to the next slide after reaching the limit. To check the number of attempts setting, you'll want to:

  • From Slide View, navigate to the Design tab.
  • Then check the Attempts setting in the Scoring section.

If you change the number of attempts to Unlimited, this should also apply a Try Again layer to that slide. This layer will allow learners to retry that slide until they get the answer correct.

I hope that helps, and please let us know if you have any questions!

Hi Vincent,

Thanks a lot for your answer to my questions. I already set up a specific amount of attempts that the learners may try on every slide. For my case in each slide I have set 3 attempts but what I want to do is that after the 3rd attempts in the scenarios they enter the wrong answer they can redo the same process on the slide and after they enter the correct answer move to the next one. Is that something I can do with a trigger or a different method or is something that cannot be done?

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for following up and sharing your file! Based on your setup, it looks like once the Incorrect layer pops up, you'd like for the learner to enter the correct answer and then move forward, correct?

Instead of using variables, one option to try is:

  1. In the Incorrect layer, change the Jump to Next slide trigger to Jump to This slide when the user clicks Continue.
  2. Change your base layer slide properties to Reset to Initial State when revisiting.

This will reset the question so that the learner can then enter the correct response. You may consider bolding the answer to ensure the learner sees it. Let me know if this will work for you!
