review quiz slide in Storyline

Mar 07, 2013

Hello,

I am learning Storyline.

I am working on a module that has 4 different quiz/knowledge check sections.  I have inserted a review slide for each section.  Three of the four sections work correctly. However, one review slide is not functioning as I need it to.  I have the review quiz button on the results slide, so the learner can go back and review each question in that section.  When I click the review quiz button it takes me to the question so I can review it, but when I hit the "next" button, it goes to a question in another section of the module.  I need it to go to the results slide, not a different quiz section question ( which technically is slide 59, the next slide, so I get what it is doing, but I don't want it to do that).  I have attempted to use the "more" button for post-review, and the branching portion is grayed out so I can't make it branch to slide 62.  Instead it goes to the next slide which is 59 which is not what I want it to do.  How can I change the trigger for the "next" button in the review quiz mode.

I hope my question is somewhat clear...

Thank you to anyone who can help me!

Hi Michelle,

It really depends on the way the course is set up. Without seeing it, it's a little difficult to say. If you only want to review the one question, you may be able to do something, but then you'd have to do this for every single question. The main purpose of the review is to review the entire quiz, to see what answers the learner got right or wrong.

Maybe you could add a custom button, or add a trigger that would jump the learner to the review slide. Again, though, without seeing how the course is said up, it's difficult to give specifics.

Any chance you can import that one quiz into a new .STORY file and post it here so that I (or other community members) can take a look and give some suggestions? If you'd like to learn how to do this, just take a look at the tutorial below:

Importing from Another Storyline Project

Thanks!

Hi Christine.  There is only one question in this  particular "quiz/knowledge check".  That is why I don't understand why it isn't going right back to the results slide.  But from a "logical" point I get the program is doing what it is programmed to do, click the next button and it will go to the next button, which happens to be slide 59, but that is a slide that is in a different quiz.  I do notice that all of the other quizs I have have slides that are in numerical sequence - i.e. slide 41, 42, 43, 44.  But this particular quiz does not.  It starts at slide 58, then 59, then the results slide is slide 62.  I need to figure out how to have the "next" button that show on the review quiz review to go to slide 62, not to slide 59. I think this may be a bug in the program.

Is there a way to renumber the slides?  I'm guessing that will mess up everything, triggers, etc if I do that though.

I will try to import those few slides to show you what is happening...

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for the file The only problem with this, though, is that the file only contains one question slide. So, it's pretty much navigating the way you'd like it to

If the original file is larger, and won't upload to the forums, you're welcome to submit it in a support case. That will allow us to see how everything is set up in the course and give some suggestions for this. You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:

Articulate Support - Submit a Support Case

Please be sure to include a description of your issue. Please also include the URL for this thread in the form. Also, please share the case number with me. You're welcome to do so here, or in a private message. This way I can follow the progress of the case and update this thread.

If you have any trouble uploading the file, please let me know.

Thanks!

I have a related question: Can I use Review Quiz in Storyline to review multiple mini-assessments?

I have successfully set up the Results Slide to have all of the mini-assessments combined into one score, but I can't find a way to make the Review Quiz button do the same.

In other words, I'd like the review to show correct and incorrect answers for ALL of the mini-assessment questions. At this point, it shows only the first question for review. Then, when I click NEXT, it goes to the next slide (next scene) in the course. That's not what I want at all.

Is there any way to do what I'm trying to do?

Thanks!

Hi Norma,

Do you have these mini assessments set up as individual quizzes all tracked by their own results slides? That's what you're combining into the final results slide? The quiz review functionality will go through all slides (including content slides) but if you'd like to only see those quiz questions, you may want to look at the method described here by Becky.

Ashley,

Thanks for your reply. I do not have separate Results Slides – just the one at the end that combines results from 13 separate mini-assessments into a single score.

We need to give the learners two attempts at the assessment, but we need to be able to track the scores from both attempts. Our LMS will only track one result from Storyline, so I set up the Storyline course to give them just one chance to pass the combined assessment. If they fail, they are instructed to take a Supplemental Assessment built separately in the LMS. It’s a bit clunky because you need to go to two different places to get the two scores, but at least it will give the Compliance Officer what she wants.

One alternative regarding feedback is simply not to provide any in Storyline. If they fail and have to take the LMS quiz, they do get feedback there. However, that’s not really instructionally sound, since it will come too late to do them any good, i.e., they will only get feedback after their second (and final) attempt.

I will review Becky’s solution and see if I can get that to work for me.

I am assuming that means I need to create 13 Results Slides, right?

Thanks again!

Norma

Hi Norma,

Nope, you'll only need one results slide! I was just trying to figure out if for some reason you had more than one results slide, if that was causing issues with the review, and knowing what to review.

Typically the LMS will keep the most recent score, not all attempts at the quiz, so it sounds like you've got a work around that works for you. The quiz review functionality that Becky describes should help out, and if you're looking at providing additional feedback on top of the incorrect/correct you may want to also look at this screenr by Jeanette.

Norma Miller

OK. I have tested it with a few of my slides and it works perfectly. I have used both Becky's and Jeanette's instructions in order to provide feedback, not just for correct vs. incorrect, but also to give additional guidance for the correct responses.

Now I just need to apply what I've learned to all the questions in my 131-slide course!

Thanks so much for your help!
